...who misses this place, and is not having his needs fulfilled in the Open Water forum? Talk of a heater was pretty much all that happened here this week. Oh well, It's gonna get hotter before it gets colder, and only 5 months 'til hard water season, I guess. I'll have to $uck it up and bide my time by getting my farmer's tan started and tending the grill.

Just 8 months and counting....I don't ever seem to get enough ice fishing?

Summer fishing, I do it just like everyone else, but if there is nobody that can go with you, it gets kind of laborious loading and unloading the boat by yourself and doing everything else that is required.

In the winter, if nobody can come out and play, it's alot easier to go it alone.

Don't get me wrong, I do truely love the warm weather and open water, but I know I like ice fishing more.

Well, there's power in numbers. If we all bring our central AC units over to the smallest fishable lake between all of us, we might have a chance. They keep enclosed ice rinks going all summer, how big of a pole barn could it possibly take for us?

I too agree that most of my fishing is done on the hard water, but there are so many other outdoors activities to do right now I don't miss it. I've been out in my canoe at least 3 times already. HOping to take the family tomorrow.

I really love the hard water season but the open water also gives me another season to chase those fish that you cannot fish during the winter.

With my new boat, I will be on the lakes and river twice as much as last season. To me, it really doesnt matter how I go fishing and when as long as I have another day chasing fish. smile.gif

I agree with the comment that it seems easier to ice fish especially by yourself. It is a pain to load and unload the boat by yourself it makes it much easier if you have someone to go with you. I do love open water though. I think this year will be a good one. I don't get out fishing as much in the summer as I do in the winter kind of a result of my work. But I have a week trip to Lac Seul that will be fun. Hopefully can get up to the Lake Of The Woods get together. I also would like to make a couple trips out to my buddies at Oahe.

Wow!!!!

I thought I was the only freak-of-nature that has been counting the days down until first ice!!!

214 days here in the north and counting!!!!

Glad to see that I am not alone and cannot wait for ice!!!

I love variety, spring fishing is great fun, chasin' those gray chickens in the fall is too short. But, summer's too hot, I look forward to winter, its AC to me. I'm born for cold, half Finnish, quarter Swedish, and all Minnesotan. There is a Bob Dylan song recorded by The Band, "Acadian Driftwood," with a line only an Iron Ranger could write: "...set my compass north I got winter in my blood"...he nailed it.

I am with you guys I would much rather be hard water fishing than soft. I like the summer for a lot of other reasons though! Just went on a 300 mile motorcycle ride with the Lil Mrs yesterday and that was great fun! I do look to be about the same color as a lobster today though :-( I must admit that I find it easier to drop the boat in the water and fish than to pull the portable out across a snowy lake. However, I would rather be in the portable on the ice than the boat in the water. Also, if there were no summer there would be no fall and if there was no duck/deer/pheasant hunting then I would be really mad! Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I do like the hard water because there's one fishing buddy who's got their reel drag set really loose and he can't cast straight without crossing your line...except because of his really loose drag - he'd might have a crappie tangling your line as he pulls it up. His excuse, "I didn't even know I had a fish on."

Remember those days in Feb. when it was -5 for a high and the wind was blowing 30+ MPH. Was I the only one that was wishing it was 75 and sunny? I now wish that it is -10 and we are going to hit the mud on Mille Lacs. laugh.gif Auger still starts right up. Start it every week. Got to love the purr of the Strikemaster 4 stroke. grin.gif

I love ice fishing as much as the next guy, but it is the journey not the destination cool.gif I don't want to rush through any season. I mean, for me there is something to look forward to every month for hunting and fishing and that doesn't even consider things outside of that realm.

But to answer your question, you're not the only guy who misses it or is thinking about it!

As much as I like the Ice, and given the fact that I don't fish much open water(unless my daughter wants to get out), I also enjoy the warm weather, sitting outside at night, golfing, and this year got myself a new hunting buddy so the more time outside the better. But the countdown till ice is still on.. grin.gif

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
