Goals for 2007 for the Captain are:

* To learn how to get out on the water more with balancing the new dog owner bit

* Get on more new water around St.Cloud than previous year

* Have a good time and enjoy bass catching with some buddies

I really like Deitz's season clicker idea and I was thinking about that last spring when the idea was brought up. Season won't work for me, but I like the daily clicker idea. IF I can get another 15+ catch day on the water, that would be sweet!

My goal is to weigh 155 lbs again.. LOL... Although that may look kind of sick on my 6-3 frame.. LMAO

uwe-Great goal.. that is a fun one... instead of fish... keep track of pounds?... Love it!!! I had so much fun on the numbers thing last year, the pound thing might be worth thinking about for a change?... hmmmmmmmm

My goal for this season is to set the state record. I need 9+ to beat Rav's record. I honestly think I have found a small lake that could produce that fish. I have fished the lake for two years and have caught a pile of fish in the 4-5# range and have had 2 that went 6. I have had some monsters follow my baits up and I lost one last fall that I believe could have done it. My plan is to throw big baits like swimbaits and giant lizards to ward of those pesky 3 and 4 pounders.

bronzeback that is an awesome goal. i would love if you had a blog where you told us about each time you were on the water trying to break the state record. that would make a great read. Also i hope this lake has all the requirements to meet it like public access. I am pretty sure you can catch the state record and if it is private they just say nice fish. ike

I was thinking about making a trip to the lake this afternoon just to see what was happening. But after trying a couple spots on the river and another small pond without a bite I figured I was wasting my time if I decided to make the trip to mystery lake. The lake does have public access but receives almost no real pressure from bass fisherman (thank God)just a pile of crappie jerkers and the ocasional pike fisherman. The secret to the fishery is waders. I'd say the majority of the fish I caught out of there last spring came out of water where you literaly couldn't have gotten a canoe into without killing yourself. It's a matter of stalking (literaly) through inches of water, well, its a lot more like stalking deer through a swamp because I spend most of the time crawling over logs and falling into beaver runs. But it's some of the most exciting fishing I've ever experianced. Theres nothing like flipping a jig into a hole in the woods and having a 3.5 lber almost rip your rod out of your hands and then have it happen again and again and again. Most of the fish average in the 2- 2.5lb range but I'd say I average close to a dozen over 3lbs in a day. On a good day I'd say I take over 30 fish. But man are you exhausted at the end of the day. The cool thing is the three biggest fish I have taken have all come off of the same laydown and one of the pigs that I had follow right to my feet came off of the same spot. But last fall I found a spot I think is even better because it sits in about four more feet of water and I think I could see old beds in there, and I think we all know what it means when a fish is bedding in six feet of waler! That also happens to be the spot where I had the monster come unbuttoned. Theres something erily exciting about watching a two and a half foot shaddow attack your chatter bait!

I think I am going to throw swimbaits most of the summer to target the 5+ fish on the weed lines. That may be the key. (I have a lot of ideas)

I think I will try to log all of my trips on FM just to keep everyone posted. That sounds like an awesome idea.

It's a pretty lofty goal but we can all dream cant we?

1. Target smallies more.

2. Set realistic goals, 10 largemouth over 20" is attainable, but 3-5 is more likely.

3. Fish new water.

4. Stick with the old stand by lures, but try something new here and there.

5. Enjoy the time spent on the water with myself, my dog, the Mrs. and friends.

Same goal as last year: I only need one 8#-1oz smallie to keep me happy. I think I know the water it swims in.

Other than that, have fun, catch lots of fish, take more vacation time, loose 25#, keep my wife happy and either kill, give away, or properly train a young boxer puppy and still keep my wife happy. (No, the puppy wasn't my idea).

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
