Minnesota Muskie Expo

Recommended Posts

Anyone make it to the muskie expo today? My brother and I are heading up in the morning. Never been to this expo. Been to the other one many times. Which vendors are going to be there? I have a feeling that I'm going to be spending a lot of $$$ tomorrow. grin.gif

Not too bad of a day. My wife spent a bunch of time at the Lake Assault boat display (she really likes them). I picked up a couple of lures that I don't see at the usual haunts around town. Spent some time checking out the Tica reels (might have to try one some time, looks like a good value), and then spent some cash at Thorne Brothers on the 1/2 off lures and a Lakewood Medium Muskie Tackle case my wife picked up for her stuff (I'll finally get some space back in my case). It was also nice checking out the new Ranger 1860 multi-species boat; very nice.

Well, we got back a few hours ago. Wasn't too bad. Spent a little over $200. Could have spent a hell of a lot more. Now i have a new problem. I need to buy another Lakewood tackle box. grin.gif Never thought I would fill two Lakewood tackle boxes. laugh.giflaugh.gif

I brought $200 to the show and I was shocked to leave with some money in my pocket! I thought it was a very good show and I coulda spent a whole lot more $$$ if I wouldn't have shown some restraint.

I didn't buy anything at the expo. To many people there I don't like that. Stoped at thorne's and biught some stuff there which were actually cheaper than the show??? I don't know why but there was some lures that were cheaper?? Oh well didn't care about the price to much just a lot more room to walk around and dream.

Hiya -

I had a great time at the show. Know so many people there that it's hard to get around though - start a new conversation every 10 steps. And now my knees are killing me from standing on that floor for 3 days...

About prices at the show...

I think a lot of guys expect to go to the show and get huge deals on stuff. Sometimes you can, for sure (Thorne Bros had Garcia 7000Bs for $79 bucks, which is about 40 bucks off what a 7000 usually runs, for example). But you have to consider things from the vedor's point of view too, especially if they are manufacturers. They can't sell their regular stuff at too steep a discount. If they do, the retailers they supply the rest of the year don't like it much, and understandably so. So instead they do custom show baits, either with special colors, or other different feature like a different size, different components, or something like that. Stuff they don't supply to retailers that you can't get anyplace else. Sometimes they're MORE expensive than their stock products... Other vendors do buy N baits get one free kinds of things, which is a pretty good deal too...free's free. So the 'deals' are there I guess, depending on how you define a good deal.

I didn't really get much at the show. Replaced some Rad Dogs that were getting pretty chewed up, did the same with some CJ's spinnerbaits and Shriver spinnerbaits (sense a theme here), got a couple of Mike's new Buzz Dogs, couple things from Musky Mayhem. Not new stuff really, just replacing stuff that gets worn out. One thing I did get which is kind of cool is a custom rod from Hugh Becker's estate. It's a custom Fenwick - I think it might be an old World Class even. Neat because it's a sweet rod, plus I just sort of wanted to have something of Hugh's because he was such a great guy.

All in all though, a fun show. Now, if that ice would please go away...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I made it out spending a little over $200. What a great show! It was fun seeing so many unique lures that are wood and handcrafted and not all the plastics and rubber lures that you see in all the stores now. Something new to look at! I also picked up a new set of Abu's 7000 HSNi reels! VERY NICE! It's a shame I bought two records last spring for the same price! Abu even strung them with full spools of line for no cost with whatever I wanted on them for free! What a super weekend! Just waiting for the boat to come out now and a new Lakewood to fill up with more treausres since the 1st Monster is full.

I had a great time there!!! We ended up going all three days!! I would rather not tell how much I spent there but it was way to much!!!! Prices were not as great as I thought they were gonna be but o well!! I thought it was kind of funny seeing all the big names there and how small some of them looked!!! Me being 6'3" 220 pounds make the fish look small compared to some of them guys!!!

And we also kicked the North Metro teams but in bowling!!! Maybe some of you out there are in the North Metro Chapter!!! Theres always next year!!!

I bought a wally Pog in baby loon color from nimmer swimmer. I couldn't resist. I hope that it swims as good as it sounds and I almost hate to use it. It will be bitter sweet the first time I get teeth marks in it. grin.gif

The rest of the weekend, I spent the my time selling and I only got to walk through the show once. (but I could have over and over).

Biggest hits of the show seemed to be Rumblers, double cowgirls, Garcia 7000's and Bulldawg Rods. and I spent some time drouling over the 10" weagles.

As for deals, there were good deals all over the show.

one more thing,

I sold a 6' heavy, Rod with a C4 to a 4-5 year old that was with his dad. It was cool and he was really excited. Needless to say, the dad got the best deal of the show and a fishing buddy for life. It made my day.

I was hoping for one of those custom Sennets but didn't get there in time.....I too wanted one for the display case, way too crazy looking to throw!

Beyond that, picked up some goods from Mojo, and with Baldy's help we spent over $400 of my buddies money! That was pretty fun! I see a KT Prof. Edge stick in my near future too.
