fishinchicks
Uhhhh. It's a largemouth bass. The artist must not have studied enough.
Guest
first of all, that fish looks like a cross between a walley and trout but it jumps out of the water like a Bass Isn't the Walleye the unofficial state fish??.. WEIRD.. But whatever works..
BigWadeS
If they are small enough and you set your hook like it's a blue marlin they will fly out of the water
GatorBait
I've seen many walleyes hit flies and such on top of the water, also seen a 10lb'er floating on the waves eating some dead minnows, but I've never seen one actually jump out of the water. DTro
If you read the Strib article about the winning choice. The artist explained that the fish was not intended to be a specific species.......huh?Whatever, I'm not putting one on my vehicle. I'd rather just give'em the cash. Ely Lake Expert
How did that beat the actual walleyes swimming in the rocks? Anyway though, 3 times in my life I have been reeling in a walleye and had it jump. all about 17 inchers. I was in shock when they got to the boat all 3 times. The must have been sick. eelpout#1
The only walleye I ever seen jump out of the water was on opening day on Ottertail. The last time I had been walleye fishing was up on the Rainy River. You develope bad habits when you catch 75-100, 3-5 lb fish in a day. My brother will attest that you don't use the same hook-set motion on an 11 inch walleye as you do on a 25 inch fish. I set the hook and beaned Jon in the head with it. We laughed alot over that one. Northlander
Ya that plate wasnt even close to the real looking walleye on the rocks. Im blaming this plate winning on all the grass carp fishermen voting for it.
IFallsRon
What's the limit on a non-specific? Dang if it doesn't look like cutthroatwallbasspercheye.
gunflint
The only time I've seen a walleye jump is when I'm fishing with Northlander. They see that it's him and they jump right in the boat. It saves on bait. As for the plate, sorry I'm not buying. It's just stupid.
schweady
Maybe this woulda been a more realistic looking entry: Original Billy Bass, with electric adapter. Sings, "Don't worry, Be Happy" and one other song. Batteries included.
Northlander
Gunflint I think they were just following the pink fireline. LOL. You have to get up my way early in Dec. and hit the ice. Thats if we ever get cold weather.

The Grebe
The fish on the plate is to generic for me....looks like something that would be produced in another country and then shipped here? Better check the back of the plate to see where it was produced! Made in.....?As far as walleyes jumping, I have never in all my years of fishing, seen one jump that wasn't hooked and I only seen one actually jump out of the water that was....kinda like a bass. It was about 4 pounds and it hit a spinner bait I was using at the time, fishing the Mississippi river below the dam in St. cloud. It made a pass at the bait once and missed it...on the second cast it grabbed it and I set the hook...the fish bore downstream, reversed itself, came up stream abit and jumped out of the water, doing a flip in the air.....musta been mental? Guest
That plate looks too cheesy.. I hope they still have some deer plates left when I go in for plates next week.
The Grebe
How coincidental is this...Tonight I had about a 2 pound walleye jump sideways out of the water when I was reeling him in...it was a halfa$$ed jump, but a jump none the less! Two others joined the first and hopefully tomorrow, 3 others will join them and those 6 fish will feed us and our family of 11, through the winter.
