ice line

I think I may have tried them all. I like to stick with what has always been my go to line... Berkley Micro Ice .

I tried the Cajun and didn't like the stretch and bouncy feel. Cold weather is similar in my opinion, just blue. I've tried P-line and don't really care for it. Fireline is a good choice for no stretch. Stren is OK for some applications.

Good luck,

Corey Bechtold

While i do like Micro ice it is a little on the spendy side. I just wish places would be able to get it in bulk spools so that i could get it spooled for cheaper. Nothing beats the 3lb micro ice for all around panfishing. But that being said, most of the time i just put Trilene XT clear on most of my ice rods.

4-6 lb Vanish works good as an all around ice line.

I have used alomst all of them, P line is ok but why spend the $$ on it when vanish works just as good if not better.

Cajun, well I realy don't like colored lines for ice fishing and you have to be in more than 10ft of water for that stuff to "vanish" I find that pointless?

Seaguar is good suff it's very comparible to vanish but I found that it had more bounce to it, I have only tried the 2lb that maybe why... Fluorocarbon is the only way to go on the ice IMO and Vanish and seaguar are very good lines I realy don't think one is better than the other.

OK. Have you guys used Gamma through the ice yet?

I know a few of you have been using it open water but I'm wondering about real world, through the ice experience with the line.

I'm interested in any feedback.

P-Line has been my line of choice for the last few winters now. 2lb for pannies and 4-6 for about everything else.

I have been strictly running 2lb P-Line floroclear for panfish which is exactly the same as Floroice from what I can tell and I think the stuff is awesome. P-Line makes a great product. For walleye jigging I just use straigth 6lb Floroclear. I just ordered some 2lb Fireline Crystal to try for deep water perch this winter and for laker jigging I strictly run 6 or 8lb Fireline and use a 6lb leader of P-Line floroclear from that. I haven't tried Gamma but I bet that's awesome line too.

Hans- I have not used the ice line yet... I just used the summer line, and was more impresed with that mono than any I have ever used.. I am very excited to use the ice stuff. If it doesnt meet my expectations I will go back to p-line floroice, which is what I have used in years past.

Hanson, I did get a spool of the gamma wet and then put it in my freezer to see how cold would affect it... still seems pretty limp.

Cortland Ice Line. It's florescent green so,you guys that don't like a colored line won't go for it but,I've been using the 2# test for panfish many successful years now and it's a very good line.

When I put line on ice fishing rod 2#, 3#, 4#, 6# I use scotch tape and put a little label on the rod handle saying when line was put on and what brand and #. So far 4 # Vanish has been more trouble free and caught way more fish then all the rest put together. 2# keeps getting knots in line a foot or two from the hook. Probable just me though.

I put Berkley Micro Ice and P-Line on my reels for ice season.

However I haven't had the best success finding P-Line in the St.Cloud area. Do speciality shops only carry this stuff? Who seems to have P-Line on an endless supply.

I do get down to the cities, so if I have to drive to somewhere in the Minnetonka, Plymouth, Fridley, or SW part of the cities to pick some up, not to worried about it.

Capt-I had the same problem here in Fargo last year. I mentioned to one of the head sales guys at Scheels that no one else in town had it and he gladly ordered me some. It took about 3 days to get it is all. I would see if they could maybe order it in for you there.

anyone used the stren hi vis gold ice line?i like the god for seeing on the ice,was wondering how invisable it gets in the water

I had it spooled on one of my reels last year. This rod and reel combo ended up being the one I'd let other people use, because in a couple side by side tests the rod with "regular" line badly outfished the hi-vis gold. Some days it didn't seem to matter one bit, but other days it made a big difference.

I also tried that Cajun Red Line last year. I had horrible luck with that stuff. I had six pound test, and had coils galore with it, especially when using it outside in cold weather.

I go several ways. I'm a fan of the micro ice for shallow water pans-under 20 ft- but in deeper water there's too much stretch so i switch to fireline, i can't remember what they call their ice line. I like that it's very responsive and you get a great action on your bait, but it is very visible. On all my walleye rigs i just go straight to fireline. I haven't found that they're too picky about line color, if they are i just switch to one of my panny rigs with the micro ice.

I like using 8lb fireline for walleyes under the ice. I just picked up some 8lb crystal fireline yesterday, can't wait to see what that looks like. I wouldn't mind trying the berkley vanish for walleyes, what pound test do you think would be best for that.

Good fishing,Musky

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
