Fish&Fowl
Thanks Harvey! The old man, my uncles, and myself have been long awaiting for deer season to get here. Sounds like it's going to be good weather up here by I. Falls where we hunt for opening weekend. Calling for cool and snow, which is always great for visibility and tracking. Again, be safe everyone and have a great season, may your meatpoles sag with the weight of a bruiser!
Eric Wettschreck
Quote: Let's not be afraid to shoot some does Gladly. To each their own and do your own thing but big bucks taste like [PoorWordUsage]ie and are good for cutting the head off and feeding the rest to the dog. My opinion.I'm stoked. There are 7 of us including kids and we can all shoot a doe. I'm hoping we end up with 7- one or two year old does. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!! Besides, it helps thin em out.Be careful out there this weekend fellas.

UdeLakeTom
Even when you help somebody else drag a 150 pounder across 1/2 mile of floating bog in the dark trying to find the "higher" spots so your boots don't fill completely up.Or is that just work, and not sportsmanship? Hines R
Everybody be safe and consider wearing or using one of the new green flashlights if you hunt in an area where other people hunt. We had 2 people die last year in Minnesota that would be alive if they had been wearing or using one of those lights. The not shooting at what you can't see is obviously important, but most people wouldn't make the mistake of thinking a deer has a light attached to it.Our party is 6 people and we could have 30 tags in the area we hunt. 4 Doe tags apiece plus 1 buck tag. We never buy that many tags because we couldn't use that much deer no matter what we did. It would be worthwhile to give a deer to the food shelter, but they only take processed deer. It costs us like 80 bucks a deer to process so that really isn't going to happen at least for me. If the foodshelf was smart they'd set up some kind of deal with a processor. I'd bet that you'd see a lot more guys taking an additional doe if that we're the case. Our problem is always more about buck tags. Once you shoot your buck, if you take another one you better be mounting it on the wall. Ryan
Gordie
HI Hines R there are always some familys in need of extra meat in the freezer for the winter last year myself and some friends donated deer to a couple of differnt familys. found out about the familys though the bait store. Registraion stations may also know of such familys. just a little FYI and the green light is a awsome idea. one of the guys killed last year or the year before only live 1/2 mile from me . sad part was he was shot by his best friend. SM1
I bowhunt, slug and muzzleloader hunt (and party hunt) so hopefully I will have more than one chance at a buck. Here is my solution to having only one buck tag:All small bucks will go on their merry way. I will only shoot at a trophy buck. In my book a doe is better than a young buck. I know most everyone wants to get a deer but personally I would rather not shoot a deer at all than shoot a small buck from now on. (By small I mean not much smaller than a wall hanger- just my take)Good luck everyone!
