wx_nut
Best way is to take 35 south to 90, then take 90 west. Used to do that run quite a bit. Nice drive. -wx_nut
Eric Wettschreck
I live fairly close and travel to the twin cities some to visit family. From Egan I'd either go 494 to 169 to 60 to I-90.....or 35 south to 60 west to I-90.
rundrave
take boilers route hwy169 and hwy60 to worthington and get on I-90 there, been doing it for years! its alot faster and going straight on the interstate is really boring on hwy60 the road is going to split between a 2 lane divided down to a single 2 lane in a couple spots, but its nothing long, if you want to avoid that still take 169 but go south to fairmont and get on I-90 there, I still think 60 is the best way Have fun and enjoy the black hills! Hoffer
I goto Sioux falls about once every 2 weeks. Both of the routes mentioned work just fine - and actually are about the same as far as time. The 169 route cuts off some miles because it takes an angle through the Southern half of Minnesota - while the 35 to 90 route is more like a 90 degree angle - a few more miles - but all highway. I almost always take 169 because I live in Maple grove and can hit the highway out my door. But if you are in Eagan and can get on 35 south pretty easily - I would say thats the best and easiest for you. Where are you staying in Sioux Falls?? I can give you a few hints of where to stay and where not.
Hoffer
Oh yeah - Plus if you take the 35 South route you can hit the Cabellas store on the way!
SpecialK
There's another Cabelas in SD on 90 as well!
solbes
I just made the run from our house in NW Twin Cities to Black Hills. We always take the route previously described through Mankato, St Peter, Windom, and Worthington. 4 lane for much of it and 2 lane for some distance. Honestly from Egan though I'd take I-35 if you can stand the boredom. The drive is pretty boring until you hit Chamberlain. After that I had to count Wall Drug signs to stay alert. And singing "Home On The Range"...
gspman
Mucho gracias gentlemen. Cabelas...mmmmmmm.... Staying at a Marriot. Been out to the hills with the missus before we had kids. Could be an interesting drive with 3 youngsters. Portable DVD players & DVD's baby. Blissful silence. The drive is none too entertaining that is for sure. DTro
Prepare for the heat! The wife and I went last year during a hot spell such as the one forecasted for the end of this week/early next week. We had the air on max in the car and we were still suffering A nice break in the ride was at and old western town setting (I forget the name of it). You can dress up in costume and walk around town. Course I headed straight to the bank and held it up.

Hoffer
The Marriott residence inn is nice and is right off the highway. You take 90 to 29 south and then it is just before exit 77 I believe. Also, I think their is a "Ramkota Inn" they have water slides and such and that might be nice - havent stayed there before but I always see the signs and was thinking if I ever brought my kids along for business I would stay there with them. i know for sure there is one in the Rapid City area - and i think they also have one in Sioux Falls. The West side of Sioux Falls - the area off of 29 is growing alot and has alot of new hotels with suites etc...and also some nice restaurants. I dont know your tastes and how much you want to spend - but if you want a real nice meal try Foleys Steakhouse...it is great.
mntraveler
DVD's aren't only for the kids. That was the best way to pass the time when we were out in this hills this spring for turkey hunting. Plus it was my first time watching The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. Oh, and to answer your question, from Lakeville we took the 35 to 90 route. The previous year we took the 169 way out and the 35 way back and timewise it was pretty close (to Prior Lake). I'm willing to bet it would be quicker for you to go on 35 from Eagan. Have a good time.
New Yankee
GSPMAN,Hoffer is right - take I90 to I29 South, exit 77 (41st St) and the Residence and Fairfield are just South of there on the East side of the Interstate (the Interstate signs will lead you there, but if not, after turning East on 41st take the first light South). Take exit 79 (26th St) and the TownPlace Suites is on your right (West of I-29). Plenty of resturants, Mall is right there, etc. Enjoy.

gspman
It is and you don't want me humming it. I think we are staying at the Mariott Residence Inn. Foley's sounds good. I'll see if we can give that a try.
