Yep.. I do the same. Add some stabalizer (Stabil, sea foam, etc) to cover any gas that doesn't get burned off, run the motor a bit, dump out the remaining gas and run it till it won't run anymore (via choking, etc). That's it. Add some fresh gas next winter and it should start right up...

I also leave the gas/stabil mix in the auger and like pier I start them up every so often. Havent had any problems with it this way and have been doing it for as long as I have owned augers. (22 years) I think starting them a couple times a month really helps keep everything all lubed up.

I always empty the gas tank for the summer. I noticed from time to time mine would run a bit funny, either bogging or just not hitting that high speed. I might send mine in and have it tuned up and what not. Any recommendations on where to send it?

After I had problems with the auger after storing it without any gas, I now just leave gas in it and fire it up every month. Yea, the neighbors give me weird looks during the summer when I'm mock augering the green grass, but I get those same looks when I'm grilling meat with a headlamp on during the winter. grin.gif
