Lost my shelter license...

TUMBLEWEED

Recommended Posts

I just noticed my shelter tag is misssing from the pocket

of my Otter II Cabin. I still have the second part that

came with the tag. It states that it is a " license ".

My question is am I still able to sit in my shelter??

The card with my drivers license is still in the

pocket window.The " license " states I have

privileges for Dark House Shelter ???

What do you think...

I would get a new copy!

You are not really legal unless you have the lic. attached to your shelter!

Some wardens will let it go, others will be more than happy to give you a ticket that will cost you much more then the copy would! mad.gif

I do not like the new lic. that do not have the sticky back, just because they can be easily lost! mad.gif

For the little time it takes to get the $2.50 copy it save you a $80 fine! On kind of a side note if i have multiple shelters can i just use duplicate licenses as long as my houses arn't in use at the same time? I have a Fish trap pro for when i go out for my self and quickflip 2 for when i go with a friend and a larger wooden portable when it gets cold. It just gets to be pain to remember to switch the license and make sure i have securly attached.

Ouch..that is a good fine. I haven't bought mine yet, but I think they did away with the sticky tags and went to just a water proof, tear proof paper. There is a prepunched hole for tying it on.

ASMOLEY,

I'm sorry, but you lost me.

ASMOLEY,

Thanks for dumbing it down for me. grin.gif Nope can't do it. I've got multiple portables myself. I either have to transfer the tag or buy an individual tag for each one.

ice_shack,

You and me both. I had a nice piece of plastic I'd stick the license to. It worked really well, now it's useless.

With the new license yes they are no longer adhesive but they make an adhesive kit for the snowmobile license that prints out of the same machine. You should be able to ask for it and get it for a shelter license as well. The reason for the change is a smaller profile for the license apparently people didn't like the bulky adhesive ones in their wallets. At my old job i went to a seminar on the new machine that is now in use at all ELS locations.

Metrojoe,

Thanks for the response i'm going to do a little more research on this it really save us some money on tags!

I was in the same suitation this year. I call the dnr and the lady I spoke with said it is legal to put a dup. tag on the second house. As long as they are not used at the same time. I have three houses I put lic. on two and buy a duplicate for the thrid. But call the dnr and verify for your own peace of mind. Mark

I talked with someone at the DNR and was told you can't buy duplicates for muliple houses. The way it was explained to me was that a duplicate is only supposed to be issued when your replacing the original. Now maybe the person I talked to has no clue, but thats what I was told.

mltjanderson,

Do you actually ask for duplicates at the same time you purchase your license?

That makes sense, but who's to say you didn't "lose" your tag, then found it after buying the diplicate. If it's legal to use the same permit for multiple houses IF not used at the same time, it's legal to use a duplicate. They're the same tag, aren't they?

Just my $0.02

Ok, i have three houses instead of buying 3 licenses can i buy 1 license and 2 duplicates and still be legal if i'm not using them at the same time?

You sure can and many do.

Most just move the shelter tag as need be, but some use the duplicate so they don't have to move the Tag.

Funny this finally came up...I lost my house license on LOW on a real windy day (day after my buddy got tagged for no license-$120 fine) So, I stumbled upon this situation myself when I got my duplicate replacement license. Then I got to thinking as well and now I use duplicate licenses. I don't fish them at the same time and can't figure how the DNR would ever be the wiser.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
