Outdoor news vs Outdoors Weekly

dnoz

Question

Does anybody have any advice on which one of these newspapers is better? I have been a subsriber of Outdoor news for a few years and I am thinking of changing to Outdoors weekly. I like the Outdoor news but would like to read articles by different authors. If any subscribers of Outdoors weekly could comment I would appreciate it.

I subscribe to both and definitely prefer Outdoor News. I look forward to reading ON every Thursday when I get home from work. I like the columnists in ON better and the reports/information in ON seems to be more up to date. I also like the classified ads in ON.

IFALLSRON,

Isn't that what all magazines are???????

I guess I should note by the sole intent being to generate advertising revenue.

Last week my Outdoor News didn't come until Friday. I was pacing back and forth on Thursday night wondering who I should call, did I miss my renewal, I wonder if they have any copies at the gas station? Luckily it was in my mailbox on Friday. I like ON hands down over OW. They do both advertise, but if they didn't the subscription would cost right around $500 a year. So I will put up with the ads.

Hey bushwacker...

I have been getting ON for a few years now and I have noticed when there is a special edition, like this weeks 2 section Opener Special Edition, it usually shows up on Friday...I was pacing myself until I realized it would probably be the opener special edition. which means wait until friday... 10 days and counting..

I usually get my ON on Saturday and as late as Wednesday the following week. ON had an article blaming the USPS. My local USPS office just got award for excellence delivery service. Who do you believe???

I buy both, there is good reading in both of them.

ON has more reading information, but also has way more advertising.

Glad I'm not the only guy that freaks out when Outdoor News isn't there on Thursday. Not too long ago it came on Saturday. Yikes. That did it for me. And I only live 2-3 miles from there office on Winnetka Ave. Used to drive by it everyday on the way home from work. Not sure if thats where its printed & distributed but I've thought many times about stopping to try and pick one up if mine hadn't arrived yet.

Hiya -

Well, since I write for them, I'm a little partial to ON, but... smile.gif

About the post office business... It's something any publication deals with, believe me. For periodicals like magazines, nothing makes subscribers crazier than seeing the latest issue on the newsstand before they get theirs in the mail. With Esox Angler, We have a very small percentage of each mailing that just never shows up. Once, the PO lost an entire mail bag full of magazines. Bulk rate periodicals get there when they get there. It's not the Post Office's fault really, it's just how the postal class system works. It's wierd though. A friend of mine and I both get the In-Fisherman. We live about 6 miles apart in St. Paul. He gets his 5 or 6 days before I do every time. Wierd deal. But not the publication's fault, or even really the POs.

Speaking of ODN - read Rob Dreslein's Ed. Column in the latest issue. Good stuff.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I would like to point out that the Outdoors weekly now has new managment who are rummered to be changing things to better suit us as sportsman and women.

Not sure what it will intail but I seen some changes to thier line up of writers and people who help put the news mag out there.

I subscribe to the ON but have had both for many years.

I always wait till the Game fair or one of the sport shows where I get a new hat or some lure for my money to sign up.
