License # on FishTrap?

I have a fishtrap as some here do, and am wondering how some of you put the Drivers license # onto your shelter? I have tried laminated paper and other stuff, but always seem to have it fall off and get lost. DO you just spray paint on the # from a template onto the fabric? I hate to do this, but I guess it's required...

Just cut some fabric out of an old piece of clothing like an old coat that will allow you to write on it with one of those fat black perminent markers. Then take some safety pins and pin it to your outside wall. Works good.

I bought some three inch reflective numbers from the hardware store and applied them to a thick piece of cardboard. Then I straightened out a wire hanger and ran that through the cardboard for extra support. Then I just slid the whole thing through the sleeve that comes with the house. I put the sleeve in front of the house above on the door. It worked pretty slick.

the clam license holder works great for me. I just laminated a computer printout of my dnr # and slid it in the holder. haven't lost it yet....

Don't use your Driver License number, Use your DNR Number.

I printed mine also on the computor and used packing tape to laminate it.

I bought some orange reflective tape at F/F and wrote my number on with a magic marker. Been 3 or 4 years and still on, plus you have reflective strips on the trap. Actually have it on 4 sides so the crazy snow cats & autos don't kill me.

Go out and buy a Calm Corp's license holder.

The fabric marker idea is a great option to, the only downfall with that is if you decide to sell your fish house some day, that number of yours is permanant on the house. That would be real tough selling point.

The fabric paint pen is a great idea, the problem is using your drivers license #. If you havent gotten your new drivers license yet (the cream colored one) then you havent found out that you also get a new drivers license number. And when that one has to be renewed you will get yet another new d.l. #. Something about ID theft prevention. So the problem now is that I have a "dead" drivers license # paineted on my fish trap and my Yukon frown.gif

everyone says the clam holder works great with a lam. piece of paper. so now how do u fasten it to your trap ?

I took a nail and a torch and heated the nail enough to melt a small hole for the license holder grommet to fit through. This should ensure any hole does not spread. 1 full year of use and no problems yet.

Is your DNR number on your license?

I use the Fish Trap license holder on my Trap. Works great. I took a piece of cardboard and wrote my DL# on it and slid it in. You have to be careful on what type of material you use to put in the holder because it must be able to bend a little when you fold it all up.

JimBo, Yes, they can be a real pain. About 8or9 years ago I'd just bought a Clam 4600. As I was assembling the house, I was approached by a CO. He patiently stood there while I got to a point where I could let go of the frame before he asked to see my fishing licence. I handed it to him, he looked it over then he stated "I hope you don't plan on fishing from that house". I questioned why I shouldn't. He then told me my licence numbers weren't legal height(3"). If I started fishing in the house, he'd have to cite me. He was correct, I knew it, the stick on numbers were only 2.5" tall. They were the only size I could find locally, on a Sunday. Well, I dismantled the frame, packed up and drove home, mad.gif! Either you have been VERY fortunate, OR... That Sunday, I met a CO with a burr in his panties. Hind sight being 20/20, He could have been a real behind and let me finish setting up frown.gif. For the thread, I use the Clam licence holder and just use 3"tall stick on numbers/letters right on the licence holder. WHY go through the work of making a seperate card that slides inside the holder? The stickons are water/weather proof as is the licence. grin.gif Phred52

"If you havent gotten your new drivers license yet (the cream colored one) then you havent found out that you also get a new drivers license number. And when that one has to be renewed you will get yet another new d.l. #."

a little off topic here, but is this true? so that means every time you have to renew your license you also need to dispose of old check blanks and order new ones with the correct d.l.#? what about any loans etc that have your d.l.# on record, do they need to be informed that is is changed?

i can see that deal being one big mess. envision people who ended up with someone elses driving record getting crossed with theirs etc etc etc.

plus i am sure this brilliant new plan wont cost much either...but hey thats right we have a $700 million surplus now right? i think maybe pawlenty went to enron accounting 101!!

Before putting my Yukon together for the first time, I took the canvas to Harris Warehouse Canvas and Camping. They sewed the holder on for me. I also had them add a small clear pouch with a velcro opening so I can display my license. I think they only charged about $45 and now I'm set.

In case you use your DL# and it changes, if you want to loan your portable to a friend, if you want to sell it later....

that's why I don't want to permanently affix my info...

I suppose you could just remove the holder to accomplish that.

I have a voyageur, I wrote in black marker my DNR # on a piece of carboard and slid it in the license holder. It works good. Then I used the clam screws (that come with the house) and screwed it through the zipper tag. Works fine and is displayed for the warden. Didn't cost me a dime and works fine

It is still unclear to me what information is required to be posted on the outside of the portable shelter. If I interpret the reg's correctly, I need only one of the following printed in 2 inch tall letters: Drvier license number, DNR Number, (what is a DNR number?), or name and address. In addition to one of the above 3 items, I also need to somehow attach a tag that was issued with the dark house license. So, if my counting ability is up to the task, I need 2 things on the outside of the house. Correct?

Thank you!
