hanson
I figured my pride runs a little deeper than the "ditch pickle" I have up above. 1991 Arctic Cat EXT 550 Special This one shares the trailer with the 2002 AC ZR600 EFI in my 1st pic. That EXT is a sweet little sled. Twin pipes, carbs, studs, leopard pattern seat, and of course the limited edition pink/purple flames.
hanson
1 more... 1973 SnoJet StarJet 433 This one has a double lunger 433 Yamaha in it. For those who don't believe in synthetic oils, its running Klotz Techniplate premixed right now and purring like a kitten (sorry about the AC reference). It actually runs better on synthetic than regular oil. This was a sled I picked up from a buddy. It didn't have an engine. I found a donor sled and pulled the motor from it to use in this one. I stripped it, repainted it, and reassembled it piece by piece. When it was all done, the motor still didn't run right. This was my first experience with crankshaft oil seals. What a headache!! To replace crank seals, you have to remove the recoil, pull the primary clutch, pull the magneto & stator plate (which was the tough part since those screws haven't moved in over 30 year), pull the heads & jugs, remove the pistons, and then split the case to get at the PTO & Mag side seals. Thoroughly clean all the gasket material off of the metal and replace with the new seals and gaskets and then reassemle. Yikes!!! She runs fine now! I do have another SnoJet, a 72 StarJet 340 in the garage that is boxed up and waiting to be restored. My childhood sled, a 71 StarJet with a Hirth 292 one lunger is at my uncles place waiting to come back to the garage. I can't think of another motor that sounds better than that 292 Hirth than possibly a few of the vintage HiPro motors out there. Waconia anybody? I better check on those dates. wallydiver
Here's a pic of my 1990 EXT. That's funny Hanson, we almost have the same sleds.
hanson
Yep... Close!! Big difference between the AWS front suspension on the '91 and the AFS on the pre-'90 AC sleds. Anyway, another sled I'd love to park in the garage is a Wildcat 700 in the chassis you have in your photo. Wallydiver- You just need to get some factory decals on your sleds. Hey. I've got a good buddy that I went to college with at NDSU (he went to MSU but we worked together) that was from TRF. Can't remember if I asked you or another TRF guy. Anyway, Nick Swanson from TRF. Probably class of 1997 or 98.
wallydiver
Yeah, HUGE difference from the old AFS to the new AWS. I've had some hood problems and never seem to get the factory decals back on . Does Nick work at Digi-Key, big guy about 6'3" or so. If we're thinkin of the same guy, I work about 10 feet from him. Small world!
hanson
Nope, different people. He's working in Fargo for Anheuser-Busch (I believe).Small, skinny guy. He likes to race 4 wheelers and used to race sleds a little as well.

ChuckN
I know Suzuki. I'm pretty sure I fished against you years ago in a LETS tourney on Otter Tail. But, IMO a Suzuki is a Suzuki.

knoppers
always ride cat. the battery less efi is the best. pulling my fish house here at the lake last year, see the plentiful snow. this was great riding for about 1 month.
hawkeye43
I was on a race team that ran all Sno Jets, man those were the days. I ran a 295 Thunder Jet, some of the things I could do with that sled was scarcy.
hanson
Now that sounds like a blast Hawkeye!Any ThunderJet these days is going to run a guy over $2,000 easily! And I mean easily depending on condition.
Old School
My pride would be my 72 Raider. Then I cant forget my 72 Kitty Cat. The kids love that one. Then my beater and ice fishing sled is a 72 panther, sorry no pics of that one yet.
PierBridge
What is this some sort of Ditch Pickel cult thread. Here's my Ditch Pickel. I use it for early Ice exclusively....that way if she breaks through the ice it's no great loss and it's just a little more structure in the Lake...LOL Notice the life jackets in this pic. Love the older classics you guy's have...OH I almost forgot Polaris Rules!
CatManLee
I had an EXT Special Just like yours, Flames and all. Sold it last year for a decent chunk to buy some fishing goodies for my boat. Now I have a sweet 1978 Kawasaki 440 Fan. It's nothing special, but I figured I'm never going fast with my ice house behind anyways, atleast not really fast. I purchased the sled for $100 Bucks, Put a new piston in wich only cost me $25 (Got Lucky and found one cheap), and I guess thats my pride! One day I'll be able to afford a newer sled. Quickstrike
i had that exact same jag, but sold it this past summer and got a 98 Polaris XC 700. can't wait to get it out!!!
fishinphilth
01 polaris XC600, starts like a efi, and is pretty dam fast. Not quite as fast as a F7, but haven't had a F6 touch it yet. Was thinking of getting a F7, but buddy of mine works on his just as much as he rides it. Got over 4500 miles on it and not one bad thing other than a couple of shreded belts. All sleds are dam good now a days and it is all preference. Always had good luck with my Polaris'.

benelli_dude2002
Had a 95 800 ZRT for 4 winters and treated me good in 6500 miles and still got $2000 when I sold it. Had a 98 MXZ 670 and it treated me not quite as long only to 5200 miles until it let me down 26 miles out on Lake of the Woods and I had to get towed home by a Cat. Nothing against Skidoo though cuz it was a great sled. Think my next one is a Cat, I love the new '06 Crossfire 700 and I tell you what its been hard to stay out of the dealers showroom because they are only a block from my house. I havent went in there yet this winter but like I said its tough. Last winter was my first sledless winter in 15 plus years. I drive through West Yellowstone MT just about every week and see all these snowmobilers having a blast. Wish I could swap seats with them.
