Choosing new flip over

I am in the market for a new flip over portable. I am looking for a smaller two man, bigger one man. I have looked at the otter wilderness walleye, the trap guide, ranger XLtwin, and the otter cabin. I want to spend around 400 and get the most i can, i.e. seats, sled, etc. I really like the wilderness walleye because it comes with the cover sled and seats for around 400. I also am looking at putting mods in it and i think the deeper otter sleds will work better for a floor and things. Please give me any input you guys can on what you would choose. Thanks

toops,

I bought the larger Otter ( lodge??) two man last year. I am very happy with it but, if I had it to do over again, I would by the wilderness or the smaller two man. The larger two man is almost too big to haul in my Tahoe. You are definitely on the right track.

If you can spend the $$$, go with the Otter - you won't be dissappointed. One brand you didn't mention that is worth looking into is the Eskimo Quickflips. They have improved the durability of these houses a lot since they first came out, and the warranty dept. is very customer friendly if you need them.

The Otter Medium Cabin would be a good choice. It will fit 2 people just fine, yet it will more than adequately house one perosn. The Small Cottage is a large one-man, but fitting 2 people inside the Small Cottage could be a little tough. The best all-purpose 1-2 man portable fish house is the Otter Medium Cabin in my opinion...

I haven't owned an Otter but they do look like they are in a class by themselves. I would check out all the manufacturers though. Sit in each one and think of how everything will be placed, it's amazing what little differences there might be from an Otter to a Frabill to a Clam, etc, etc

I have a Ranger XLT twin, it will become my backup house now...I bought a new Otter Magnum Village that will be the one mainly used...The Ranger I have isn't very roomy, long rods are an issue, the house is a little short on room in most areas, bench seat I like, sled is kind of small and not very durable...Has been a decent house for the money, not in the same league as the Otter houses....

My $.02 on this. Otter sleds and houses can take a beating like no other portable on the market. Are they a little bit more expensive? Yes...a case of, you get what you pay for. Are they a little bit heavier? Yes...Durability has its disadvantages. I have run Otters for the last 4 years, and unless something changes drastically, I will run no other.

I have sold all sorts of portables working in fishing, and I prefer the Clam Yukon. Otters are the best if you covering a lot of ice with a four wheeler of a snowmobile. They are heavier all around. If you are pulling this thing by hand and loading it in a truck, is the extra weight a plus? It depends on what is important to you.

The ease of the seat removale in the Clam is really slick. The tray system is handy too.

im really considering the wilderness series "walleye" from otter outdoors. have you guys ever fished out of one or had experience with one. they look like great houses and are the perfect price and size for what im looking at.

I have the Otter Magnum Lodge and owned a Voyager. If I remember right the weight was pretty much the same. The Otter sleds pull easier because of its swept rake where as the Voyager was more apt to plow snow with its blunt nose. Both houses are roomy for 2 guys and comfortable to fish out of.

I prefer the Otter because of its tuff tub and thicker canvas.

Loading either house into the truck was made easy just by propping one end on the tail gate then coming around to the other end and lifting it up and sliding it in.

I have an Eskimo Quickflip 2. It is a two person and I havn't had many problems. Its not the easiest to pull but I pulled it by hand last year. It pulls very easy on hard snow or glare ice, but i would recommend that you have a snowmobile or four wheeler. It has velcro out windows and works nice when it is cold, so you don't have to flip it up or use the door. You can just slip the fish out and continue on with your fishing. You can get one for around $300.00.

I have an otter sled (medium) and I plan to get the medium cabin for it as long as I can avoid the purple and yellow. That would be treason (even though they are 1 game ahead of the Packers). I am hoping for a good deal at the Ice Fishing Expo.
