It'll probably be a Custom Jigs and Spins Shrimpo for me if chasing pannies (which will most likely be the case smile.gif). Or else a JR's Tackle Flasher Spoon if I'm on the prowl for pike... might even see both methods the first time I hit the ice...

Actually, to be honest, it'll probably be a Custom Jigs and Spins Slender Spoon up on LOW. I'm sure I'll be up there chasing 'eyes before the ice is ready down here...

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

If I'm not doing some tip-up pike fishing at early ice, I'll be up to Lake of the Woods in search of walleye & sauger.

I'll have a jigging spoon tied onto my line such as Northland Buckshot Rattle, Swedish Pimple, or a Scenic Tackle Go-Devil. Oh yeah, we're talking LOW so a Gold Swedish pimple will be the ticket! smirk.gif

For the jigged and deadstick or bobber rods:

For Minn. Perch-a firetiger Crusher and a glow hooked minnow

For So.Dak. Perch- A Buckshot rattle spoon with a dropper and a shrimpo

For Sunnies- #10 orange ant and Chartruese teardrop

For Crappies- Whatever Kelly P. is using that day grin.gif

For Walleyes- big Buckshot or Angeleye

For Pike-Anything big and shiny

Probably will be fishing walleyes so Im guessing I will be jigging a JR's Tackle Flasher Spoon. This spoon has turned out to be my go to spoon. One hint is to double up the little blades on each side of the spoon. ( Thanks Joel) More flash and noise.

If Im in the river I will more than likely be jigging a JR's Rattle jig or a jigging rap.

Well, in all likelihood the first lure I drop will be for gills and crappie - so it will likely be a glow red #10 Fatboy tipped with either 2 spikes or a TJ's Pinpoint Plastix tail (bubblegum is hot). Also tied onto the rod contingent with be 1/16th oz. Northland Forage Minnow spoons in silver/black, and Hali spoons in firetiger/perch and red/orange. The Hali's are the ultimate perch weapon, but at times the gills will go crazy on them as well. Depending on where I find fish and how much I have to move, I may set a tipup or two for pike. Later on that day, I will set a tipup and a deadstick (Rock-n-Reel) for eyes - and start jigging, likely with a 1/8oz Northland Buckshot rattle spoon. This year though, I plan to finally buy some of the Angel Eye and Glow Devil spoons - they look too good to resist (for me and the fish!)

Of course the target would be perch, the first would have to be the Northland Buckshot rattle with Waxies, for locating and attracting, then once the fish show up usually a Genz Worm with Waxies will always do the trick!!! grin.gif

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!

8" auger down first,

FL - 18, 2nd

Marcum VS 560 Camera, 3rd.

Who knows if I will even get a chance to fish after all that. If I do wet a line, I will probably put something flashy down there to bring some fish near. I've never use my camera yet, so I'd like to see some fish on it. Every year prior to this, I'd go perch fishing and rock the perch eye jig, with a minnow head, followed by a #6 bare hook tiped with a crappie minnow.

My first lure will be spearing decoy - probably a red/white pattern. The spearing season for northern pike opens here in Minnesota on 12/01. I am heading up north to the border country for the opener where we are often on the ice by Thanksgiving. I can't wait, and God willing I will be out there.

If my first foray is to land a walleye or two, definitely a Scenic Tackle Angel Eye JR with the head of a fathead. I still don't know why these lures are better than what I use to use, but they do land me quite a few fish.

If I'm fishing panfish, probably a Marmooska or a Flirty Girty (I like the name).

However, unlike the vast majority of you, I can wait until well after waterfowl hunting and pheasant hunting for our lakes to have ice. You guys are just plain crazy wishing for ice in September. tongue.gif

Go-Devil with a fathead for some early eyes. Then a shrimpo or ratso tipped with some wigglers for panfish. But,first I need to finish with the fall eyes so I know where to start with the early ice.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
