BURNED ON EBAY-SOME HELP PLEASE!!

GotOne

Question

I thought I was getting a new lms332c and just got ripped off instead. hsolist and/or paypal will not give me the persons personal info. Police dept said civil deal and buyer beware-no help. The bio said that they live in St. Paul, I might have found his name and address, but they do not answer the phone. I checked prior purchases and the person ordered a 5x shirt - so a big mother, don't really want to go knock on the door. Paypal gave me $175.00 back after they took out the 25.00 service fee (joke) and I am dealing with my credit card company for the balance. In the past they have said that if I do not get what I ordered-wouldn't have to pay. Any advise from anybody else who had to deal with this type of deal. Thanks Bill

well I do alot of stuff selling and buying on hsolist, been burned once, however, with the paypal situation your probably S.O.L.

I am not a big fan of paypal, all they care about is getting their $$$ then after the transactions finish they leave you hung out to dry.

If your paypal account is tied to your credit card, I would call them and dispute all charges, they are probably your best bet.

Make sure you leave negative feedback, try to email the guy through hsolist, also contact the hsolist help/tech support they can also advise you what the best route to take. hsolist has very good tech support.

Good luck, I guess just be glad it wasnt alot more $$$$ and a lesson learned, if its local, Burnsville to ST Paul you should have just asked to come pick it up, or at least check it out first, if they decline, that tells you right there you dont want to buy from them.

oh yeah paypal is owned by hsolist, so just contact hsolist tech support not paypal, good luck again.

Thanks for gettin back to me. I found the depth finder on hsolist shortly before time was up. I did ask if I could pick it up and they told me it shipped out of Illinois, even

though they are in St. Paul. Maybe that should have raised a red flag, however I'm new to the hsolist thing. I am in the process of disputing it with my credit card company (Cabelas). The total cost was 533.00 and only refuned 175.00 by paypal. I should have used my points, but I was saving the points to get a rifle for my sons first deer hunting season. Always trying to get a deal and it might have finally bit me in the butt. Is there a better option than paypal? Keep the ideas coming and thanks.

I think when you buy something with Paypal you have the option of buying insurance which "guarantee's" a full refund if you don't get what you paid for.

Did this guy have alot of feedback points? I only buy from people who have alot.

I had a similar experience with a much smaller $ amount. I orderd a remote for my boat radio(yes I know that is sad)and it never came. Called the company and said they would refund my credit card. Still no refund. Finally called my credit card company to dispute it. Got a letter a couple days ago saying the temporary credit was now finalized. Credit card companies have alot of power. I would start there.

Good Luck

Boy, this really pssss me off. Gives a bad name for all those selling on hsolist, like myself. Did you not receive the locator at all? Like blakjack mentioned, I think there is kind of buyer protection insurance but it's too late for that at this point.

I can't think of any way to dig up any more helpful info on the seller. hsolist keeps contact info very limited. About all you can do is email back and forth but if they don't answer, what can you do?

You may have looked at this already but this is from ebays help area:

If you're a buyer who hasn't received an item you paid for, or if the item you received was significantly different than the item description, you can use the Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described process.

These processes enable you to communicate directly with your trading partner on the hsolist site, which helps avoid many communication problems often caused by email spam filters and out-of-date contact information.

Ask a third party for some assistance

hsolist's dispute resolution partner is SquareTrade.com. SquareTrade can help you clarify issues and establish communication with your trading partner, and they'll even provide a professional mediator for a fee.

Good luck and I hope you can come out on top of this raw deal.

Did they guy have decent feedback? I've only had two issues with hsolist buying, one worked itself out and the other never did. The one that didn't, the guy had a big feedback rating so I thought I was OK, but after I got screwed by him, I did a little more research (like I should have first) and found he hid a lot of negatives by selling huge volumes.

The AG's office won't be able to do much of anything, especially if there isn't even any real contact information. I htink the last poster was right, try those features that hsolist has and then just try to continually bombard him with emails until he finally responds...

By the way, who was the seller? I want to avoid the crook!

Maybe not as constructive as you'd like but..... I'd log onto every porn/viagra site on the internet and request to be put on their mailing list with his e-mail address. Might be hard for him to find your mail in the 5,000,000,000 pieces of spam but it may make you feel a little better...

I didn't receive squat from him. I got an email from another person who bought the same depth finder from him (after me)and never received it. It's wierd because he is from Canada and is also disputing the purchase. The person only had about 8 transactions on his account and had a great rating. We both gave neg feedback. What is really sad is I bought the Navionics "Gold" card from Gander when they had a sale because I thought I was getting a new unit... Will since I have purchased a Lowrance H20 and been learning how to use it. Hopefully my credit card company will take care of things. What exactly do they do-go after PayPal or the jerk who screwed me? The wife doesn't know I bought it (she doesn't think I need anymore toys-when will they understand). Good thing it's on my card. grin.gif

I would bet money on Cabela's taking care of the situation and crediting your account for the remaining balance. I have had a Cabela's card for years now and I have had four problems with transactions. Two were in Mexico on our honeymoon where I was double charged. They were taken off immediately. The other two were internet sites that I had never heard of. They sent out forms for me to sign and took care of the rest. As far as credit cards go they are top notch in my opinion. There is a protection with almost all credit cards that you do not have to pay for transactions that were made without a service being rendered or a product received.

I know just how you feel. I got burned by a guy in Florida when I was trying to buy a plate joiner off of hsolist. I used a money order and he never sent it. I ended up getting about half of it back from hsolist, but my good deal was completely shot by then. I learned my lesson and picked one up at a local hardware store. The part of this that really stinks is that I found the SOB selling the same one again about a month later. He even used the same picture. I wrote to hsolist, but they did nothing. So I notified the high bidder and managed to convince him to stop payment. Suprise suprise the seller suddenly was no longer registered. I made sure to let him know I was watching. He may have won once but I've kinda made it my vendetta to keep hounding him. Cabelas will help you out for sure. I got overcharged at the sidewalk sale and called customer service about 3 days later. They looked through the till receipts and presto, there was an extra $100 in that particular till. They credited my card that same day. You're in good hands.

I had only once a problem with a seller on HSOList, contacted HSOList and my credit card company and it was resolved to my satisfaction in 5 days, maybe I got lucky.I would dispute the charge with your card company as they probably can do more for you as anybody, and youll find out how good your card company is.GOOD LUCK

I'm at about 100 buying transactions on hsolist, mostly video games, computer componets and low-priced stuff for my kids. I'm pretty leery of any seller with bad comments but I don't let that always be my guide because there's plenty of dumba$$es who give negative comments regardless.

The best luck I've had in challenging a bad transaction is calling my card service and going through its system. BTW, I haven't always won.

One of the best was when my purchase was confirmed by the PO as delivered to 1020-30th Ave. N. when it should have gone to 1020-37th Ave. N. PO guy said I called too late. But he also was able to track it all and said that there was a substitute that day "who should have known better." It was a "sign for" package. I stopped by the house and asked about the package but I may as well have been talking to my dog.

After that, I always ask seller to confirm ship-to address. It's always worth it to get delivery confirmation.

I hope you get a good resolution.

Thanks all for the kinds words of encouragement and advise. Even if I get a refund from Cabela's, I hope this person does not get off without some kind of punishment. Now I have to wait for the big sale or coupon deal they usually have in the fall to get an additional discount. Thanks again.

Of course he's going to get off without some kind of punishment, this is very common people make a living doing this.

It's simple you sell a couple of things build up some positive feedback and greenbacks buy a big ticket item and the theif makes money, then they start over again and again and again.

I hope Cabellas come through for you my company Citi would do nothing for you or me.

I was a Platinum power seller on hsolist. If you paid through your credit card company (not a bank card or electric check) it should be real simple to file a dispute with them and get a full refund. Credit card card companies 99.9% of the time will rule in favor of the consumer. I know this because I people in banking and the view is this:

If the customer (card member) does not get resolve they most times close that credit card account but they feel that the vendors will most likely not stop taking credit cards so unless it obvious that the card holder is scamming they get there money back. This is true even if you paid through Paypal. I quit the E-Pay business because there is to much fraud and scamming going on and the selling fees when you include paypal are ridiculous . May be an option for other people just not me. Good luck and I hope you get resolve so you can get the 332 I have 2 on my boat and they are great units. Good luck!!

Goood Morning all,

Thanks for the advise. I used the info to get the phone number, now I have to get in the proper frame of mind to call them. I'm very leary on the hsolist thing now, how would you suggest I pay for things should I decide to purchase another item on hsolist? PayPal should have a check and balance-when you pay for something they should hold the money until both parties are satisfied with the purchase. Seems pretty simple smirk.gif

I also got burned a while back. I've done quite a few deals on hsolist and currently have an upgraded paypal account with business features. Paypal (an hsolist company) has put in place a policy that will refund up to $1000. Here's the catch; the seller must initiate the process through paypal and then the paypal "shield" icon will appear on the listing.

So in other words, look for the shield before you buy, otherwise like you said you only get $200-$25, which is what I got also. What really ircked me was that the guy fully admitted he couldn't deliver the goods (problems with alcohol and gambling smirk.gifsmirk.gif) and still had multiple lisings of the same item and others mad.gif

You should be able to file a small claims case, I would think paypal would have to release this guys info if you pursued and told them you wanted to file suit.

Good luck cool.gif

Just an update. Rec'd full credit-less paypal's 175.00 on the botched sale on hsolist. Seeing as the open water season is 2/3" over, do you folks think that I should wait till spring to purchase a new 332c when the new intro's are brought out? Might save some money. Thanks for everyone's help.
