Check out the muskie I caught last week on tonka. Makes you not want to go swimming around Big Island(was caught within view of the island).

I had actually hooked about a 3lb bass that I had about half way back to the boat. All of a sudden my line went slack for a second and then it just took off and I realized a big ole muskie grabed my little bass and the fight was on. It took about 20 minutes to tire the beast out with just a spinning rod and 10lb line.

I've always wanted to see that happen but I haven't had the pleasure yet. Nice that you landed it though and got a few pics.

A friend of mine that posts here as well(riverkid21) just got on the board a couple of days ago so I figured I'd put his picture up here. We've been having some good luck fishing the river so we decided to try a new stretch, from the nokasippi landing by Fort Ripley on down. It's a pretty hairy stretch and we found the best fishing to be within about a 100 yards of either side of the landing. We had gone way down river without seeing a single fish and somehow made it back up and he managed to hook into one around 7 or 7:30.

We went up on the Canadian Side of Lake of the Woods last night mainly just horsing around fishing walleyes and crappies, but when you are in Muskie territory you gotta throw for them!

The buddy I was with hadn't hooked a muskie yet in his two years fishing for them, so I was happy to put him on this fish! This beautiful girl hit a Top Raider at sunset on a cabbage edge. Of Course She was CPR'd successfully!!! grin

Little puke. 46"x22. Twitchin jerkbaits. Had a 55" hooked on a black and red DCG earlier, but turned and pulled off. Just the sight of that fish will give me nightmares for a long time. Biggest I have ever seen. Watched it hit, was already thinking replica mount, buddy was going for the net and it was over. Swam away like nothing had happened. Confined to work till Labor Day weekend, so don't catch em all.

faaat fish. nice.

I know what you mean about having nightmares after seeing that fish though. Seeing a fish about that size is what really got me into muskie fishing. A friend(riverkid21) and I were out fishing about this same time of year last year. And he had a muskie follow him up on a rattle trap that he was throwing for bass. He told me over and over that this was a huge fish, biggest thing he's ever seen, scary big, etc. So both of us equipped with relatively light tackle (heavy bass rods) and a few muskie lures proceeded to cast for this fish for about an hour and it followed us up 4 more times after that. It was the most ridiculous fish I've ever seen and if it would've bit there was no chance we were landing it. One of the 4 follow ups was on a small gray shallow invader that i twitched all the way back to the boat just a few inches under the surface of the water. i saw the fish on my bait and i completely froze. Knees began to shake. And i freaked out. Needless to say the fish didn't bite. I can still see that fish though just under the surface of the water less than a foot from me. Easy 55" with a head about as big as my 8 horse outboard. Frightening. But awesome. After that I equipped myself with all of the necessary gear and I just cant seem to stop.

Exactly. Musky Affective Disorder (MAD). No know cure. Only treatment is time on the water. My partner on Monday had never fished for muskies, let alone seen one caught or attack a bait. He got to see both. I think he has been infected.

Fished today in 20 mph wind gusting up to around 40 mph and it was totally worth it. Riverkid21 and I were fishing the river again with a friend and after 15 minutes of fishing he'd already lost a big fish that hit boatside and boated a smaller fish a few casts later.

This fish came just a little after sunset on a big black and red Buchertail. She hit a ways off from the boat and the fight was a fantastic one to watch. I missed a very early opportunity to net the fish, actually I pulled back last minute because i didn't want to risk anything, and managed to get her in on her second pass by the boat. This fish was very green when she entered the net and literally almost jumped out of it. Hook removal was easy and if this fish had the mind to open it's massive jaws for any reason she could've spit the hook in a second. All in all though a great day out on the water and it just goes to show that fishing in rough conditions like this is completely worth it.

New personal best at 50" it was hard to get a precise measurement because the fish literally did not fit in my boat.

perfect release. even stuck around a few minutes just in case she resurfaced. Couldn't stand to lose a fish like that in that area.

Thanks everyone. We spend a lot of time on the water, but I can't say luck hasn't had anything to do with it. Vague knowledge of what these fish like to hang by and a lot of casts have helped us put some big fish in the boat already this year.

It's just too bad the both of us have to go back to college at the end of this month.

oh well, if everything goes well today I'll be back in here with another picture for you folks.

Luck may be a factor, but I can assure you that I have 0% chance of catching one now in the home office! Packing for a Leech Lake trip in my defense.... Give yourself the due credit for putting in the effort and having a lot of success. Your learning curve is on a stte incline!

My advice to you is to record what you've done and what has produced. Time of day, weather conditions, lures, water levels, etc. It'll pay dividends next year when you're trying to recall what worked and when. Sounds a little excessive, but you'll be glad you did.

Good luck heading back to school and I'd be happy to take the spot specifics from you and send reports when you're back at school!

Again, congrats on a great summer and keep involved here even when your back on the books.

Went up to Vermillion for bass tournament and decided to go out for a few hours with my brother-in-law and his uncle Musky fishing and I ran into these two. First is 49.5" and second is 46.5". They were less than an hour apart.

At the time they were way more fun. Caught a ton of bass though and they were all pretty nice fish. Could of caught 20 bass a day around or over 3 pounds. But yeah, that was an unreal hour and will likely not happen again. Kind of have the Musky bug a little bit but still have some more bass tournaments so can't go to overboard with skies yet...

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
