What kind of rifle do you shoot?

Don't want to start a WWIII here, but I find it interesting what other people shoot. I'm sure we'll confuse the he11 out of vexalicious here after the opinions start rolling in grin.gif

Myself, well I am partial to the Tikka T-3

1.Arguably on of the best manufactured barrels on the market. Cold Hammer forged meaning each barrel comes off the line flawless and all identical.

2. Adjustable trigger (2-4 lbs), comes set at 3lbs out of the box.

3.lite

My second choice is the Rem 700 BDL. Known for it's accuracy, looks, and craftsmanship. The bolt action on these guns cannot be beat.

i still shoot a lever action winchester 94 30-30 with iron sights and have never needed anything more than that. never even had to track a deer as everyone i have shot has dropped. The gun is 3rd generation in my family.

I started out with a Savage model 4/4 pump action 30/30 and that was probably the best "deer gun" I ever owned. I still have it and take it out at least once a year. I have since evolved through a Win model 70 .270 and now have a Browning A-Bolt in .270 WSM. I love the A-bolt with its short throw and the short actiion with the WSM makes it an extremely quick cycling gun (not that I've ever needed a second shot mind you...;-) ) and a pleasure to carry in the woods.

Remington 700BDL 7mm with Luepold scope for deer,Remington 700BDL 243 with Leupold scopefor varmits and for the bigger version a Ruger 300 win-mag in stainless with a leupold scope, fluted barrell, epoxied barrel, trigger change to lighter smoother pull and of course a muzzle brake to tame down the kick, but the noise is pretty load. But what a killing machine

Winchester Featherlite .243 with a nice scope(I have a Nikon Monarch 3x9) I think its one of the best midwestern gun out there. Its a flat shooting gun and has good range. Its big enough to take down deer and small enough not to blow a fox in half. A well placed shot will take down any size deer....I've gotten a lot of bucks with mine.

Savage 111 (left hand) in .338 win mag. Picked it up for elk hunting, but liked the accuracy so much that I use it for deer also. (overkill, I know)

My old Remington 742 in 30-06 is now lonely.

For varmits, I have a couple of 220 swifts. My Ruger #1 and an old Japaneese type 38 that my dad had made in the 1950's.

Leave the old 742 in the closet. They are great guns, and look awesome, but they have a notorious flaw. The bolt head chatters when shot to often. They work wonderfully, until one day, they just jam. From that point on, you've got and auto-ejecting single shot. I've had at least a dozen guys in the last 12 months bring 742's into store for this. Eventually, it happens to every one of them frown.gif.....

I have a Rem 7400 in 30-06 for deer hunting in Wisc. (use the trusty 870's for MN...).

I also have a Ruger all weather stainless steel .223 for varmints and a little Ruger 10/22 for plinking. I guess I also have a cheap little Marlin .22 that I leave at the lake place for plinking too but I don't shoot that one much at all.

My favorite would have to be the 30-06 because I've killed a lot of good deer with that beast. Its even in the picture with me in the avator...

I have two of those 742's. One is quite a bit older than the other, and both have the marks on the receiver from the bolt lugs chattering.

Neither one has hung up yet, but they dont get shot much anymore either. Too much sentimental value to get rid of them.

Still own a 742 (308) and killed plenty with it but just bought a Tikka T3 lite. Really nice short bolt throw, light, feels good in the hands, to me!! looking forward to shooting it soon, got it in the 300 wsm, somthing bout short bolt throw and short cartridge that interested me just in case you need a quick 2nd or 3rd!! The other thing I liked was the removable mag. just my thoughts.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
