You're gonna call me a liar!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am from the savage area, and on 35W just south of the river, there are always deer on the east side of the interstate. Tuesday I was driving to the airport, and happened to look over into the marsh. They were unusually close to the road, so beening the good driver I am, I watched them while cruising down the road at 75mph (Not sure how I didnt get in an accident.) I looked back at the road to check if I was in a lane, and when I looked back, one of them had jumped on another as if they were breading. I couldnt see any antlers, and am sure they have already been shed. Has anyone ever heard of this, this late in the year. I know what I saw, and I couldnt believe it! I am not sure if it was a just a horned up buck or what. Anyone know what the heck is going on.

I couldn't say for sure but I wouldn't doubt it. Over the years I have seen some pretty small fawns with spots late into the Fall. But you never know it could just be a buck looking for a good time grin.gif

I'm afraid if you are a fisherman and your lips are moving you are most definitely a liar. This lable applies to all subjects of conversation.

Cattle often do the same thing. It's not uncommon to see a hefer mount a steer for no reason at all. Now if there was a distinct action/motion...I'd say anything is possible.

Just remember every fisherman's a liar besides me and you. And I'm not so sure about you.

The old boy was probably just bored since it's been a few months. I don't think the second rut carries this late, but I don't know since I'm not a biologist.

A breeding this late would be rather uncommon, but it must happen. Every few years, I see a fawn that still has its spots during the November deer season. I would guess that the previous poster was right that said it was one of last years fawn coming into heat for the first time.

One thing I've noticed latly, up north we have a s---load of

sno. At my feeder it has become quite competitive on who gets to eat. They will jump on the backs of another deer in a heart beat. That may have been what you saw, kinda funny, they beat the dump out each other, major clumps of hair near the feeder. tongue.gif

They have been fighting quite a bit at my feeder also, in fact last night a small 6 point came in and ran the other 4 deer clear out of the area and then took his sweet time feeding up. I have seen the fawns jump on each other quite often, I think they are just playing, but who knows. grin.gif

I will sound more like a liar ... but I have 2 witnesses(sp?)...

My Fiance, my son(3 years old), and myself were trail riding(ATV) in Savannah State Forest last spring when a similar deer incident happened(mounting)... I got a little ahead of my fiance(she has my son on the wheeler too) and I slowed and looked to see where she was at. As she came around the bend she was making a gesture to catch my attention that something was in front of me. I looked and it was 2 deer maybe 15' in front of me. She pulled up beside me and stopped(keep in mind ATV's are running). Next thing you know one deer proceded to try to mount the other deer for a few seconds. At this point in time we were obviously shocked this is happening... The next thing you know the deer start walking towards us.. to about 5 feet away. By this time im starting to visualize when the animals attack videos.. that would be my luck with my 3 year old with us. So, I rev the engine to try to detour the deer... no dice, they keep coming. At that point I told the Ol' Lady to follow me and I took the lead and agressively got us a short distance down the trail.

When I hit the throttle and started to go toward the deer, they only moved far enough to be out of the way (about 5 feet).

I have seen this in Texas before, and when I asked about it I was told does will sometimes do this as a dominence thing.Every species has a pecking order. That is the info I got, true or not I don't know for sure. But makes sense to me.

my 2 cents...saw a marty stouffer video...maybe a hunting video can't remember which. a big buck jumped up on a small six pointer and was showing him why he should stay clear...worse part was the little guy just stood there. think he was praying for someone with a rifle instead of a camera

I don't know where the picture originated, but my friend from Little Falls sent me a rather weirdly timed photo...it was of a small buck pumping a Weimerhauner (Or however you spell it?) and the dog was turned around showing it's teeth.

Maybe once them bucks get wound up, they just don't care?

Nova and WB, it is common for deer to fight at a feeder, thats why it was always recomended, when feeding in deer yards, to put out several smaller piles of feed rather then one big one.
