we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 3, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 3, 2005 Check out the adventures of Hillbilly to the Bone Guide Service hosted by Matt Johnson. Matt takes us out on a current IceLeaders early ice fishing trip to Lake of the Woods, and along with Carey & Troy, shares some great information about tackle usage and fishing. Walleye, sauger and perch are the order of the day. The footage was scarce because of wind issues and battery problems, but the fishing was absolutelely awesome with over 100 walleye and sauger brought in. Mostly walleye with a few sauger and perch. Special thanks to Zippel Bay Resort on Lake of the Woods!! The fishing was truly fantastic and the lodging was even better. hanson
You guys were up there 1 week before I was. We experienced the same kind of action. An actively jigged Go-Devil or JRs Slammer were the ticket when I was up there. They wanted to chase it up 4-6' off the bottom before biting!Good video and nice fish guys!! LOW at its finest! Hemlock
Very Cool....however I lost the connection after about 5 minutes in... same thing happened yesterday with a different FM/Ice video. Any ideas? Other than that, great footage, info, commentary, and fish. I was out yesterday on the north end of the lake and it was non stop with 16-18 inchers. Tried my LX-3 for the first time and loved it!

Jim Hudson
Nice Video guys, nice to see a few familar faces there from Hillybilly to the Bone guide service. I have fished quite a few times with Carey before these guys started this guiding service. Carey and Troy know their stuff from the Grand Rapids area to URL and LOW. Dreah, I believe you can contact them through Lucky Bait near Rapids. They did have their contact info on their signature, but I dont think they were authorized. Hillbillies
Hello Rick, Surprised how well the video turned out considering the conditions that day. I'm really glad to see you got some usable footage. We had allot of fun turning you and Matt on to some killer action! Man we caught some fish that day! The fish couldn't resist those Emerald Shiners we got from Lucky Bait in Grand Rapids. Also, thanks for turning us on to those lures in the Custom Jigs and Spins Walleye Kit, the combo sure did prove to be deadly. Hope you guys enjoyed the stay at Zippel Bay Resort the cabin they set us up in was spectacular!, very nice accomodations. Sure am looking forward to seeing some footage from that second video we shot of the LOW and Red action. Hope to see you on Winnie this weekend. If anyone is interested in contacting us at Hillbilly to the Bone Guide Service we can be reached through Lucky Bait in Grand Rapids at 218-328-5949 or you can call Troy at 218-259-4833 or Carey at 218-259-2877. Good luck fishing and be safe!
Hillbillies
Hey there Deitz, Troy here from hillbilies, just noticed you were from Lindstrom. I used to live there before I moved back to Grand Rapids in 97 lived there for three years just north of town on Oriole Ave. 2nd house on the right. How's fishin round those parts? Deitz Dittrich
Hey Troy- wish we would have known that when we were up at the woods.. We could have had a little chat about here at home.. I moved here in about 95 I think...I live just across from the boat access at South Center lake... Fishing in the area here has been decent.. but the fish have been small.. They are getting eyes and such out deep, they havent moved shallow yet even at night.. The crappie bite seems pertty steady, but the fish are small this year.. or at least the ones I have found were small...As for open water. I love it here, these lakes are just great! Simply love the bass fishing!!!Thanks again for finding us the fish on the big pond.. I had a real good time! If I am ever up that way again Expect a call from me! Hillbillies
Hey I used to have some really good luck on slab crappies on a lake north of Lindstrom a little ways. I thought the name of it was long but I could be wrong. Wasn't a very big lake either. Just gettin up to head out fishing gonna stop up at the Ice Leaders contest on Winnie 2day. When I get time I'll look around a bit and see if I can figure out the name of it for sure. NEED COFFEE (Contact US Regarding This Word) it's early
Deitz Dittrich
Hillbillies I know the exact lake youa re talking about.. been outthere twice. with not very good luck!
Hillbillies
Seems if I remember correctly there was a sunken bar just out of the landing a ways out to the right that kinda ran between a point on the far shore and a reed point on the shore nearest the landing, came up to around five feet. used to pound nice slabs in the winter on the breakline where the bar started to rise from the deeper water. Sound familiar?
Deitz Dittrich
Shhhh, yup , sounds familiar... I was out there tonight and caught a nice limmit of Crappies in about 17-20 foot.. had a fun night! However, I was on a different part of the lake! Hillbillies
Ok that's awesome!! Let me guess, when you went out from the landing as you get to the main part of the lake did you hang a sharp right and fish out in front if that little bay that goes back in a little ways? Never fished in that spot in the winter but in late fall the paper lips would move out of there and suspend over the deeper water.Fishing was reel good here yesterday but the weather keeps changing so much that it's up and down. Carey and I filled out on some nice 10-12 inchers on Pokegama and my son went to Red with his mom's boyfriend and filled out on some pigs. One he brought home was 15 inches and weighed 2.2lbs, the kids as much of a fanatic as I am! We saved that one for the wall as he's only 12 and and has now equalled my biggest crappie of the same weight. He's also got a 9lb 12oz. walleye on the wall. I have yet to catch one bigger except for several over ten on the Rainy River including a 32.5 incher full of eggs, musta been pushing 14 lbs. they all went back, lotta fun!! Good luck fishin!, busy week got three guide trips so far. I'll let ya know the results.
