favorite rifle

My ugly, synthetic stocked Savage 111 (left hand) in .338 win mag. It's topped with a Leopold Vari-x II, 3 x 9. It is the most accurate rifle I have next to my 220 swift, and was also the least expensive.

I have had it since 1998, and so far is has taken three elk and five whitetails.

A Mauser-Bauer left-handed bolt action chambered for 30-06, topped with a 1.5-5x Redfield Widefield scope. I call it the Kid, because "the kid don't miss".
Oh, and an 870 slug gun topped with a 4x Leopold scope that I used to hunt with in Iowa until their DNR decided that nonresidents should pay a King's Ransom to hunt there.

Not a rifle...but it's what I hunt with. .44 Mag. Ruger Redhawk, stainless, open sights. Have used this for about 6 years. Many deer have fallen, plus two black bear. Oh yeah--and a snowshoe hare one time. I love it!
Before that it was a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a scope.

I have two centerfires, three muzzleloaders, and four slug guns in deer calibers, but if the house caught fire, I know which one I'd grab first. Over thirty years ago, a friend who did stock work helped me put together a 7x57 Mauser with a BRNO Mauser action and a Mannlicher full stock. I have absolute trust in that rifle and I can't count the deer and antelope that its taken over the years. I have four sons and when I die, there's going to be a heck of a fight over that gun.

.308 Browning BLR 2-7 Leopold. My dad always shot a lever action Marlin 35 Remington so I've always liked the lever actions. Don't get much shooting over 100 yards in our neck of the woods. Good caliber, good rifle, a lot of good memories. (Actually this may be the first year my 75 year old dad won't be able to hunt, I may use his gun just to get it some hunting time that way if I get one with it he'll feel part of the action). I took 000 steel wool to it to take the shine off of the stock and it has a nice flat finish to it but still the protection.

Just because I primarily hunt slug zone, it would be my 870, but even that I wouldn't lose too much sleep over if the house burned. The one I got when I was 14 was stolen out of my folks house 7-8 years ago & the replacement to that's in the bottom of a river. I love the one I have now, but I could always get another. Maybe I'll say the 2 3/4 smooth bore slug barrel. I've killed all of my slug deer with that barrel & that includes at least 2 will all three of those 870's. It's pitted up & looks like **** , has been for years, but it shoots em right in there. The upgrade to the tru glo sights was definitely an improvement.

I have shot deer with a 30-30, 7mm mauser, 308, 12 gauge and am now using a 30-06. With proper shot placement all guns worked just fine. The 06 has become my favorite but someday would love to afford the 270 wsm....

Browning A-bolt stainless in 300 WSM topped with a 3X9 Nikon. Got 6 deer and a moose with it so far. Remington pump in 270 is my other one. Use that for moose also. It does the job although some may not agree. I used it for years and killed a few moose with it too. happy hunting Brian

Its not a rifle and the way i shoot its more of a sling shot but since i turned 12 its shot me 3 deer in 3 years. O ya im talking about my remington 20 ga 1100-LT. has to be the most unaccurate gun ever one day 4 experinced shooters ( and myself making 5) shot 5 shots each at a paper plate at 25yards it got hit 3 times and i think that was luck. Ive tried every brand of slug that i can find and i cant hit a target to save my butt but it kills deer so im not gunna complain to much.

Remington Model 740 Woodsmaster .280

It got handed down to me. Dad's grandpa or Grandpa's dad's gun. I hunt with both dad & grandpa and they are both jealous that I got that gun. Not the most technologically or ballistically advanced gun in the world but I don't care. It has shot me a number of deer and there is alot of sentimental value too. Grandpa still brings it up every year in deer camp. I can hear him saying right now, "Your great-grandpa would be SOOOO proud of you right now." And, I guess to me, that's what it is all about, the traditions and history. But, the gun does shoot fairly well too grin.gif

Stainles Ruger .270 with a 3x9 Leopold. 22 deer and 3 bear so far with it, still shoots either nosler ballistic tips or Sierra boatails at 100 yds into a quarter on a hangover day and into a dime when I'm steady. Got it used also, best thing I have ever purchased. The only weird thing about it is it will spray other bullets all over the place, bet thats why the guy sold it so cheap? check out this years bear on the red lake forum under Dancing Bear, don't know how to post pics here.

Well what was my favorite deer gun. Was my BPS Invector 28" smoothbore with 1.5x6 Bushnell scope. Never had a problem putting 5 shots into a softball at 75ydrs and a plate at 100yrds. Dumbest thing I did was sell that gun. I also mainly hunt slug zone.
But even when I'm in rifle zone I rarely see a deer past 100yrds for a clean shot. This year I'll be armed with a Mossberg 500 Iron sights with 24" slug barrel and a Ruger Blackhawk 44mag.

Wish me luck haven't had to much pratice with either

About fifteen years ago I bought a Rem 700 mountain rifle in .270 with a 2 - 7 Leopold. I love that gun. It is light and the action is smooth. I have tried other guns and shot a few deer with them as well but this gun fits me like a glove. Most of the deer I have shot with it have been 100 to 200 yards away but my Dad once took a little buck with it at 400 yards. It took him a couple of shots to figure out the elevation and windage but once he hit it the deer dropped like a rock.
