Grand daughter's Present

Bobby Bass

Recommended Posts

.My number two granddaughter who is nine has spent the last three days here with me and the wife. I have yet to buy her Christmas present because I am at a loss as to what to get her. Since her first birthday I have been buying her stuffed animals with last year's one being a bear that stood over five feet tall. The daughter put her foot down and I am no longer allowed to buy any more stuff animals. I have been working on the granddaughter trying to find out what she wants. Tonight about a half hour before her parents show up to get her she tells me, she really could use another tackle box! And the wife wonders why I call her my favorite!

What I did for one of my hunting buddies kid for Christmas every year was to buy him a different wild life hunting call! See where this is headed. Louder and better one each year! :D

He is older and hunts with us now and uses some of the grunt and bleet calls that I got him. ;)

A great gift for a young person is a lifetime fishing or hunting license. Now is the time to buy. I wish something like that existed 25 years ago. Its a great deal and a great gift.

Happy Holidays

Unless they move out of state.....

I have 7 grandkids, 2800.00 is not in my budget. I have bought lifetime license but they are given as graduation gifts not as Christmas presents.. My initial comment is not that I am looking really hard or am at loss for a present rather that I am proud the grand daughter wants another tackle box and is in to fishing. Start em young.

The lifetime license is still valid even if the person moves out of state.   My daughter is 2 and we have thought about getting her the lifetime license but its still alot of money to spend before knowing if they are really going to enjoy fishing.  Right now she loves going out fishing but most of its because thats what I'm doing and she's a huge daddy's girl.  It looks like I have another year or so to decide before the price jumps to the next tier.

Since she likes to fish; maybe one of those plastic fish grippers.( the jaw type) I  have several  they work great for grabbing northern, and all kinds of other fish. I have orders to use one with northern!! ( two some ones were not happy bandaging my thumb when we couldn't get the bleeding to stop!)  That way  too; little kids can hold a fish with out touching it! Not overly expensive either.

The grand daughter was over today with her new three tier tackle box. She had it open on the big table and was sorting lures from her smaller tackle box into it. Not exactly the way I would have done it as she was organizing the box by the color of the lures. I think it is something a nine year old girl finds to be the perfect way. With the smaller box now empty she told me I needed to go through my boxes and she will take anything extra I have off my hands.:D She now has three tackle boxes as I forgot about the one she won in a fishing contest. She is way ahead of me at her age!

I may qualify as a non collector.  After years of being like your granddaughter and raiding my dad's tacklbox I may be the fishing equivelent of a "minimalist".  My buddy's give me grief that I will put my stuff in a plastic bag in my pocket and head down to the boat.  Works fine for me since I may fish 90% of the time for walleyes and the balance for crappies.  Plain hooks, swivels, jigs, sinkers and some line for snells.  Throw the slip bobber stuff in during the Summer and that's it.

However, in the boat are multiple tackle trays of stuff I only use in emergencies so I'm a slight hypocrite.

I'd be happy to forward some new plugs and lures your GD's way any time Bobby.  I think I have a bunch of boxes of stuff at the cabin I've got as gifts over the years that's never been used.  I may even throw in my coveted floating mouse lure I had when I was nine!

A great offer leechlake but I think we will have to pass. If she got lures from you then she would just fill up her new tackle box and I would be back to having to buy her another box! besides I enjoy our trips to the bait shop eyeing lures and sharing the time. I already have her convinced that she needs to have two of everything in case you lose one and that is the one that is catching fish. Part of a grandpa's job is to spoil his grand kids, all the better she is a fisherperson.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
