Daunte Basher ?

MJR,

I've never discounted the year Daunte is having. Statisically speaking, it's probably the best ever so far.

I'm just not ready to place him as one of the all time greats yet. Get back to me in 5-10 years and I'll re-evaluate my postion.

Interesting discussion.

Daunte is definitely an above average, up and coming, probably going to be great QB. But, without sounding too negative, this hype was here last year at the same time the Vikes were 6-0. I think some people on here have memory problems. While Daunte is on track to break numerous records, a lot can happen over the next 10 games. I firmly believe that Culpepper is one of the most athletically talented quarterbacks in the league, but it's his confidence that hinders him. If Culpepper gets hurried, he gets his happy feet and stands in the pocket and fumbles. I love the Vikes but I saw Philly take it to them. So far they were the only ones able to stop the offense, unfortunately, had we played better defense against them, we would have won. It will only be a matter of time before someone learns how to slow the offense. Another real problem is that the defense has gotten worse since then. As for Brett Favre, he is a "great" and a lock for the Hall of Fame. As much as I hate the Pack, I liked watching Favre play, even if he needed oxygen like a little girl. However, a good quarterback knows when to quit. I could see sticking around on a team with a legit shot, but no way are these guys goin anywhere.

Daunte's lack of respect for posession of the football drives me absolutely crazy! He's learned not to throw interceptions most of the time, but his fumbles are enough to bald you. In the same token the guy's an absolute stud & we won't get far without him. He could be a Hall of Fame QB, but way, way, to soon to tell that, we'll know in 5 years...

Man, you guys really have a hard time accepting a guys opinion if it doesn't completely agree with yours don't you. Hey, we will take him in packerland in a heart beat. Course he wouldn't start at QB for a couple years, probably tight end or full back. Now just relax.

There is no problem accepting another opinion. No offence, but it's just that when a certain opinion is so far out in left field, it borders on losing all credibility. Heck, I've just been an observer on this thread and man, you are just simply not on the right page about this one.

Let’s face it, the only reason we have a winning record is because of our offence, but honestly, how many of you guys are sitting on the edge of your seat with your hands over your eyes on every snap of the ball?

I don’t think anybody is questioning his ability. It’s his consistency.

All I know is when I see Daunte sling it deep, I have confidence it is landing in the hands of OUR guys, and that shows good decision making.

The guy is truly awesome! If you expect a flawless guy that will lead a team to 16-0 no matter what then I am sorry, you are just setting yourself up for disapointment.

Daunte, GET YOUR ROLL ON!!!!!

I do not want to start a new post for this so I will ask you guys. How about Moss? I was listening to the radio to the Vikes game yesterday and all they could talk about was how great Moss was (is). They said he was by far the greatest player playing at this time, and I hear it on TV (monday night) the same thing. I really do not see him as being any different than he was a few years ago as far as attitude. I know Chris Carter taught him every push off trick in the book so he is probably a better receiver but the greatest really gets me. I would put quite a few as being better. Culpepper, Brady, P Manning, Faulk, just a few to get started. I won't even comment on him hobbling around the first offensive play to keep his consecutive starts intact. (oops) The TV announcers claim him to be the team leader and a great inspiration to his team. That is really too much for me to believe.

Im not a daunte basher....but he is NO Dan Marino. 5 or 6 games might as well be none. You have to do it all year long..game in and game out. And I do know football, so just remember folks....marino did it in 14 games in 1984. I really wouldnt get to excited about him anyways, Last week he was running for the sideline with a db closing in..at the last minute he did a spin and went up the sideline for an additional 8-10 yards...actually a pretty good play and totally legal. Problem is...he got cocky and held out the ball to the db and was smiling and talking smack...still legal mind you but just wait for the next time he heads to the sideline...someone is gonna smoke him bad and take the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty....you just dont do that on tv in front of the rest of the leauge. He will be a marked man. Beyond that its only week 7 folks...that leaves alot of weeks and alot of hits left before anyone proclaims him the leauges mvp??? Iceman Out>

Yeah, but the the announcers are saying he is the greatest football player playing today. They are are bypassing the the reciever part and including all the players. I don't think he is. Dakota, these guys think thats the way football is played - lots of trash talk and jive.

I would say Moss is top 5 playing football today without question, from there you could make several arguments for who is the best player. Dancing around like an [commercial-or-naughty-word] does not make you a better or worse player it just makes you look stupid, but sometimes it is funny.

You keep saying there is too much jive and trash talk, I cannot believe you like the NFL at all then. Very few players do not trash talk and dance around like idiots when they surprise the heck out of themselves and actually make a play or sometimes even when they don't make a play. Unfortunately it is very common at every game.

The Dewayne Rudd manuver last year was my favorite.

There is no bashing too be done right now on Culpepper. No one in the NFL is playing QB better right now. As far as Moss goes, a person can definately make a case for him being the best playing in the league right now. No one player commands as much gameplanning and attention that Moss does on the field. He IS the leader of this team, he IS the heart and soul of this team. He has matured dramatically the last couple years. Moss comes too play the game, he doesnt showboat, no endzone dances, maybe a jump into the crowd, but more often handing the ball too a kid sitting in the endzone. You cannot possibly come up with anything "immature" he has done this season. As much as T.O. would like too think he doesn't, Moss does go over the middle (you dont get 106 catches in a season by running streaks every play) and he does block. Some people need too quit listening too Merrill Hodge and company who like too drag Moss through the mud because it gets ratings. No one is going too make a piece on Moss making blocks and such, that would be no fun. Watch Moss for yourself people, the Moss that spit on a ref 6 years ago (yes 6 years ago) is not around anymore. I can't stand people who can do nothing but say Moss is a punk and all they can come up with is stuff that happened his first 2 years in the league.

I'd would say hands down Moss is the most dangerous player in the game. The best part is Linehan has finally figured out just how wide open Moss can make this offense. Not just by chucking the ball deep too Moss, but by using the attention Moss gets and using it too his advantage. For example how they got Robinson open on the post twice in OT against the Texans. And the TD last week on the goal line using a fake too Moss and misdirecting it the other way too Wiggens for the TD.

I like that about Moss. Not much showboating after a touchdown. I think it was Barry Sanders who said you should act like you have been there before and will be again. He is definately the most dangerous reciever in the game. If I had to pick between him and Peyton Manning, I would go with Manning every time though.

Randy Moss isn't perfect, who is? But he is the team leader & until last week to my understanding he'd never even missed practice, that's producing in my book. He is certainly the best receiver in the game, a top 5 offensive player, & probably top 5 overall. It's pretty tough to say who the best player in the league is. You have to game plan for a lot of guys offensively & defensively.

If you look at the media's response to the meter maid/cop lady, the ones that actually knew who she was knew it didn't go down quite like it came out. What he did was wrong, but this person is apparently a piece of work & a lot of people know it.

If you're ripping on Culpepper's play at this point this season, you just plain don't like him, which is your problem. The guy's really, really good, too soon to say great, but very good.

Like I said before in the best wr in the game post. It doesn't matter who is throwing the ball, Moss is going to make the qb look good. The only thing is that this year C Pep is throwing the ball to everyone on the field besides the corner backs. That is one of the reasons why he is doing so well this year if you ask me. Another reason is that he is getting smarter and not try to be the hero (unlike Farve) and throwing interceptions. To say Moss is the best ever is to early, but he is definitly on his way. And the same for Daunte. They are both young and have a lot of big plays left in them. We will be able to talk about this subject for years to come. Sounds like fun to me.

Culpepper has years to go to prove he's in Favre's league???? I think not. Compare the stats for each's first 5 years in the league. Favre is no question one of the top 5 QB to ever play the game. But D.C has only been around a short time compared to B.Favre. IF D.C and Moss stay together with a nice running game, D.C passes B.F numbers and approaches ,if not passes Marino's records.

Vikes got to watch out for a Giant mistake this wk-end. Last year at this same time, the Giants started the downfall... GO VIKES!!!!
