bltbowhunter
I just use the castrating rings or else electrical tape. Both ways work well for me.
Hydrostreamin
Speaking of castrating rings, my wife has a used pair for sale online.....Cheap.
sptitz
I like this over electrical tape, only sticks to itself. Think I got it at Home Depot. http://www.shop3m.com/3m-temflex-rubber-...r-Splicing-Tape
expl
If a rod I purchase has the rings on it I cut them off and tape my reels on with electrical or hockey/athletic tape.Electrical tape holds up better but if you have wet hads it can be slick the hockey tape has good grip but doesnt hold up as well. Hawg
Electrical tape gets kind of gooey. Try the tape they make for tennis/ racquetball rackets, it's a gauze of some kind. Easy to hold and not sticky for a couple years.
Duffman
I agree with sptitz.....Tommy tape or silicone tape, no sticky residue.
Hawg
If that's the case I would go that way too. Never seen that stuff before.
Scott O.
I use Cold Snap Outdoors reel wraps for my rods and reels. They are basically castration rings with a flat side that grip reels nice and tight to the rod. Plus the tool they come in is extremely nice to get the rings onto the handle. I've used Cold Snap wraps for 4 years now and they are awesome!
walleyeking19
I put down blue painters tape onto the cork, than i cover it with electrical tape. The electrical tape stretches and goes on really tight and the blue painters tape doesn't leave any residue if I want to take the reel off. Mike Stark
The Frabill rod tape is nice. It's like electrical tape but only sticks to itself. And it stretches a ton.

MN BassFisher
Typically just electrical tape but recently I've been putting a layer of masking tape on the cork and then electrical tape over that. If you have the electrical tape on the cork for a season or two and then take it off it can take some of the cork with it - the masking tape prevents this. BobT
It can be a little challenging to find sometimes in large enough size but something I have used with good success is heat shrink tubing found at electrical supply outlets. It shrinks on nice and tight and there are no ends to unroll or peel or adhesive that can get on your hands or rod and they don't get brittle in the cold. bigblue
Hockey tape 4 bucks for 5 rolls holds well comes off easy no stick and doesn't damage cork reel seats.
damdiver
I use the castrating bands (aka Cold Snap Reel Wraps). I use 3 per side to hold the reel a little tighter.
