Vacuum saver rolls

Recommended Posts

I purchased my first vacuum saver a year ago and my stockpile of bags/rolls is about gone. Are the generic products any good or are they more problem than what a guy would save on money? Is there any place in particular to buy a stash of supplies? Thanks.......

If it was me looking, I would check amazon and the electronic bay auction site.

One advantage of amazon is the reviews plus return policy. Oh and price.

I actually prefer the knockoff's from Fleet Farm to the real thing. Their center is absorbent so when you are vacuum sealing something wet you don't have to break out the paper towel as often. I also find I have less bags that come unsealed than with the legit ones. One of the few times that the knockoff is superior to the real deal.

I feel the exact opposite as charliepete. I tried the off brand that fleet farm carries last year when I was packaging venison. The bags just do not shrink down as tight as the food saver brand bags. The bags also do not hold their shape as well, thus making it harder to slide into the sealer to heat seal the bag. Due to this, the off brand bags didn't seal as well for me.

I went and bought more food saver brand bags for the sausage I made out of that venison about 3 months later. They worked way better for me...

I just grabbed a couple boxes of the off brand ones again this week at Fleet Farm.

Do you double seal bags Kyle?

I seal the bags on the initial vacuum sealing, then open my sealer lid up a tad, move the bag just a little and lock down again and manual seal again.

Works like a charm.

PS, I do that with the foodsaver brand ones too. Just to be sure I get a good seal on every bag.

I put everything on the counter for a while to ensure all bags are sealed properly before going in the freezer too. If there is any sign air got in, rebag and reseal.

I do not do that, and have not found a need to unless I cut the bag too short from the start.

The off brand bags to not get as tight of a seal as food saver brand. There are not as many quilts in the off brand bags. I'm not sure how to explain how this makes a difference, but I've done a side by side tests and there is a noticeable difference.

I sealed 20 chickens last fall. 10 with food saver brand bags and 10 with the off brand. After waiting a few weeks I checked all of the bags and the off brand ones did not keep the same suction as the food saver bags...

I'll spend a little extra for quality
