Deer Classic This Weekend

Recommended Posts

Never been, what are the attractions to this event ?

Deer with big antlers? Aren't many of the deer on display simply deer with artificially cast/molded antlers of record book deer ?

What? No. It is an event to show off the fact that big deer really are taken in Minnesota. You can bring in antlers, or mounts and have them officially scored, then show them off.

There are a ton of vendors selling all things hunting related.

I used to like going when it was at the fairgrounds. Last year in Blaine it was a mess--not enough space for the exhibitors. Does anyone know if they've fixed that for this year?

x2. I don't know why they had to change a good thing.

The show was sold. From what I heard they have the bigger buildings reserved this year. Last year it was scheduled late and didn't get the bigger buidling in time. Hope they made a bunch of improvements should help the show.

Very crowded just like last year and in the same buildings. I thought I would give it another shot, being it was only the second year at the new venue. Pretty disappointed again. One good thing is that there were definitely more mounts this year.

yeah this was not the best. I found out out they will not let them get the bigger building for the one weekend. The rink making too much money for them to give it up for 3 days.Need to find a bigger building to hold all in one. Was very small show half the vendors were at the bird ,buck or what ever you called that show.

I went Saturday with my family. My boys could have stayed at the HSO booth all day with those puppies there. I met Donbo and Archerysniper. Nice to meet you guy. The show was a little crowded, but then again, it was crowded at the old place too. Just a lot of people getting together to support what we love to do.

Yeah my old man said he would not work it again. People were coming form the classic complaining and people going to the classic complaining about the new show. Just need to have one show bigger buidling. Get all the vendors and outfitters in one place.Walked around and spent most my time at the A-1 booth.

Missed it, went sledding. What happened? It seemed to fit at the State Fair building about perfect for the show size? I will not be back if it's that much of a Zoo. The up coming Sportsman show is about enough banging elbows I can handle this time of year! frown

I was there on Saturday and was disappointed too. For $10 there was nothing really "cool" or eye popping to say the least and walked the floor in about 10 minutes. Glad I was there to do other business otherwise I will not attend for another 10 years.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
