Kyhl
I friend of mine lives in Curitiba, Brazil, and on a recent visit up here he brought me some Cafe Damasco. I had never thought I would be able to taste or appreciate the difference from one coffee to the next, but I couldn't have been more wrong. I have yet to find a cup that tastes even 20% as good from any coffee around here. It was ground so fine it was almost like powdered sugar, and he put in twice as many grounds as I use with your basic Folgers, etc. (and I like fairly strong coffee), yet it was so unbelievably smooth, aromatic, and full-bodied I was absolutely blown away. It changed my whole opinion about java. How did you filter that?I eyeballed my first grind with the Preciso and ended up plugging the paper filter because it was too fine. I do agree, grind it as fine as you can get away with. We also started using more grounds after purchasing a better brewer. And it led to us drinking fewer cups per day because is was stronger while being smoother.

Jim Almquist
A pound of green beans equals what after roasting? I will weigh them and let you know. I know that they are bigger but I have to believe the are lighter.
birchbranch
With Caribou coffee, the flavors described are merely descriptions of the natural flavor of the beans. It's not flavored coffee, not even close. I am with Mr. Klean. Big Caribou fan,,, when I can afford it. Otherwise, Hills Brothers dark roast beans have to suffice. As long as I can grind for every pot it's all good.
delcecchi
One thing I found out from reading a test of different coffees is that coffee has a percentage of "bad" or defective beans. They are called "quakers" and are beans that are under-ripened. Anyway, the better the coffee company is at sorting them out, the better the coffee. In the taste test the number of these bad beans ranged from 13 to 1 in different samples from different brands. They didn't say what the sample size was. Whoaru99
I much prefer Caribou over Starbucks for a chain brew and beans. To me Starbucks has one roast...charred, hence the common nickname "Charbucks". Their lattes aren't bad though with that level of roast to the bean.Occasionally I'll order some from Sweet Maria's. In a pinch, 8 O'clock 100% Columbian works too.Of the bean, I generally prefer single varietal vs. blends. Columbian, Kenya, Costa Rica, etc., roasted City to Fully City. Down Deep
For everyday I like Starbucks Espresso Dark. I also order Kona coffee from Hawaii. I get it from two growers I've met while over there. Tsunami and Purple Mountain are grown by these family's.
