2013 HSO Spring Turkey Hunting Photo Contest

In the interest of encouraging turkey hunters to take better hunting photos and in sharing them, I would like to start a 2013 HSO turkey hunting photo contest. This contest will be judged on the quality of the photo submited, not the size of the bird. Such things as composition, tastefulness, focus, background, lack of blood, smile on the face, etc. will weigh heavily in the judging.

Photos will be submitted simply by posting in this thread.

It will be open to any HSOer, as long as the photo/photos they submit were taken while turkey hunting during the 2013 spring season. This will be open to bow and gun hunters in any state you are fortunate enough to be able to legally hunt.

We will have three catagories.

(1) "HERO" shot. Any photo showing a smiling hunter and his or her trophy. Only one photo of EACH legally taken turkey will be allowed in this catagory. So, if you legally take three birds (or 4 or 5 or...) in three states, you may enter one photo of each bird. Please add a short info piece including how, where, what weapon was used etc.

(2) "NON-HERO" shot. Anything else related to your spring hunt, this could include sunrises, landscapes, wildlife, moral picking, etc. Anything at all as long as it was taken while turkey hunting during the 2013 spring season. Trail Cam photos will be accepted in this catagory. Up to three photos from each HSO member can be submitted in this catagory.

(3) "VIDEO CLIPS" Just that, any short video clip shot during your spring hunt, be it a kill shot, wildlife footage, or just something funny that happened during your hunt. Again, anything at all as long it was shot during the 2013 spring season. Please keep the clips under 2 minutes. Up to two videos can be submitted by each hunter.

I am in the process of gathering prizes, but can not at this point guarantee what they will be, or how many will be available. (If anyone has something nice they would like to donate for prizes, please PM me)

June 1st will be the last day photos will be accepted. An impartial judge will select the winners shortly after that date.

Can't help but add one of my favorite shots from several years ago:

So remember to take your cameras in the woods with you and please share the best shots with us here. Good luck on your hunt and good luck in this contest!

Let the games begin. smile

Thanks for doing this, Don! I'm excited to get out in the woods. My bow has been on order for over six weeks and I sure hope it gets here in time to get set up for turkey season. If not, I'll probably be borrowing a buddy's bow for my turkey outtings.

That was my buddies first turkey! He got him on the 3rd shot and the bird made it 10'! They were setup right on the edge of a low maint rd bordering a picked cornfield. I've experienced some blood trailing in the snow before, but that one takes the cake! smile

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
