Well, I think we can all just about agree, the open water season is about done. So, in an effort to pass the time, what are your big projects/purchases this winter?

Mine is to make a bunch of jigs and put all new electronics on the boat.

1) I'm going to clean all my reels

2) Organize my tackle into seperate Plano's and find a tub that I can easily transport into and out of my boat

3) I'd like to get a couple more rods and reels so I'll be keeping my eyes out for deals

4) I wanted to replace the skins on my boat seats because they are getting really beat up, but that might have to wait another year. Going to St. Thomas Island in March so the funds will be running a bit low

My first goal is to get all of this years stuff put away! grin

Along those lines: Organize the big pile of stuff in the corner of the garage I took out of the boat before sending it off to winter camp. Went from a 14 foot jonboat to a 17.5 foot Fish Hawk a few years ago. Amazing how much stuff you think you "need" when your new boat has things like "compartments", "dry storage", "batteries", and "space". The only thing I needed to do with the jonboat in the fall was tilt it up so water went out the drain hole, take off the depthfinder and put garbage bags over the seats.

O lord... I hear ya.

By the end of November, my office at home looks like a bomb went off in a sporting goods store. Only time I set foot in it during the summer is to dump one pile of stuff and grab another. Everything is piled on top of each other starting with last spring. Turkey hunting stuff is under fishing stuff is under deer hunting stuff is under all the dump I pulled out of my boat when I put it in mothballs for the winter. It's a colossal pile of dump. Sorting it out is basically an archeological dig.

But, it keeps me busy all winter.

I really don't have too much of an off season shopping list yet, other than going through my boxes and replacing things I'm low on. Of course, that will probably change when the bait monkey starts gnawing on me around March.

lookingcalifornia - if you have any questions about Powells, let me know. About all I use anymore.

Cheers,

RK

I decided to pull the plug on the boat last week. I also pretty much got most of my offseason shopping done this past week as well. Now its time to clean/repair my reels and clean up and put away my rods. Also got to spend some time organizing my tackle and maybe getting rid of some stuff i don't use at all. I'll spend a little time ice fishing as well! Keeping my fingers crossed that I might be able to do some early ice fishing by saturday, I know a couple lakes in the area that have 4 inches of ice on them already!

Yes Virginia you can ice-fish for Bass.

1. Pick a lake with good numbers.

2. Find good weeds like cabbage.

3. Shiners

4. Warm or warming temps and/or falling snow

Fish for other stuff while your at it for the fun of it this is not a numbers deal. Use your camera release all big fish as usual.

I was not exactly responding to your message 3R--but to those who who ice fish and also love to catch Bass. I would feel funny fishing out of a boat with a foot of snow on the ground, but I would probably get over it after the first fish.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
