200" typical zone 3

You are implying APR can grow nice bucks, but not world class bucks. Once they get 4 points to a side they are fair game, likely 2.5 to 3.5 years old, but according to you it takes at least 5 years to grow the rack on this buck. I disagree.

i am implying that the buck is older than 3.5 and i think most would agree with that. that's it.

He could be 4.5, he could have been a marginal 8 pointer in 2010, one that maybe got a free pass because a hunter wasn't sure he had all points. That would put him at 4.5 in the 2012 season.

For what its worth, I think he is older than 4.5. I think he was a genetically superior buck even at age 2.5, and if someone would have seen him on public land, he would have been shot. This deer had a knack for survival right up until it was kicked up and shot during a deer drive. His home for much of his life, was probably private land that bordered the state ground. He probably got passed on by the people that live and hunt there because they pass on young bucks. He did make the fatal mistake of wandering onto public ground, where he eventually was killed.

Blows my mind how some of these bucks make it several years and then get shot. Youd think by age 5 or 6 or whatever theyde have it figured out. A buck I know of thats 8 or 9 years old just got shot on public land... I was very suprized! I guess even the "old men" still get in trouble for sniffin around!

Amish you said my thoughts precisely, I've been an APR guy since 1991, we were trying to say that I would hope those big bucks weren't a fork last year, I'm sure and certain they were legal targets a year ago, or even in their 1st year it wouldn't shock me if they were small 8's as a yearling, the mild winter and 1 more year of age, with good food available and they hit their potential carrying the genetics you want to see. Think of how many does were bred by those 2 giants. There are large properties down there where they practice go-grow, which means they get that chance to grow and along with growth comes larger racks. From the trailcam front most of what I'm hearing and seeing is that there are more mature ish bucks surfacing on film. Plenty of yearlings for future seed. Many anti-apr now are starting to change their stance. It's certainly a plug for APR I guess.

True enough, there is nothing wrong with trying to put some sort of age structure in the buck population which leads me to this ? Genetics. If those 2 large bucks bred does as a 1.5 year old buck are those future buck fawns born with his genetics ? I'd think the answer is yes, but why do I hear so many concerns for 1.5 year old bucks breeding does then ? A person can only speculate what that yearling will be in a year or 2 or 3. I hear take that yearling 6 out of the population etc. Given age he may be a 200" buck someday, unknown, but right ? I just didn't want to start a thread, hey no denying those are monsters and the hope to cross paths with 1 like those keeps me going. I wonder who had or has those 2 giants on trailcam ?

Geez you guys. This thread is about celebrating, acknowledging, congratulating, and admiring a great big giant white-tailed deer, that we would all dream of tagging someday.

Can we please leave the petty arguing out of it?

i think we are all just a little full of "ENVY"

It's not just zone 3 this year with big bucks. My cousins son shot one last Sunday the 11th South of Mankato in zone 2 that grossed 206 & 1/8! It had 19 pts but basically had a typical rack with one big drop tine, a brow tine that split into 3 pts, and one other odd pt. It was a massive deer! Also had a buddy at work who's Bro in law shot a big one up in zone 1 that probably scored 150's. Very nice deer.
