Deciding on a rifle

Recommended Posts

Anyone have opinions, good or bad, on these three guns? Looking to get a .270 (it's what I currently shoot and I love the caliber...just want to go to a bolt action over my current semi-auto). Also, is it worth an extra $100 to go with a stainless barrel? For the most part these are comparable in price ($550 to $680 or so).

1) Beretta Tikka T3 Lite

2) Ruger M77 Hawkeye All-Weather

3) Rem. Model 700 SPS Buckmasters Edition

Any other bolt actions you'd recommend? Looking for something under $700 for the gun only...

Thanks!

If the stainless is just for aesthetics then I'd rather not have it for the glare factor, etc. I am very careful with my guns and take great care of them. I currently own all Remington guns...my rifles and my shotgun. Sounds like people are happy with the BDLs... What about the CDLs? What's the difference?

I made this same decision last year and two years ago for my dad's rifle.I have shot 3 tikkas. two in .30-06 and one in 300 win mag. They shoot fantastic. I haven't shot many others. I have shot the ruger and i wouldn't go there.

I'm not a beauty buyer. The tikkas are a little ugly. I like the weatherby stocks a lot for fit, but their triggers didn't impress me.

I can honestly say with confidence after speaking with many people and salesmen especially that the tikka is the best shooting rifle for the money. The bolt is so smooth it almost feels awkward. The trigger is adjustable and as smooth as the bolt. The rifle is incredibly light and it is certainly noticeable after any amount of time carrying it.

My model 700 stainless is getting loaded into the truck as soon as coffee is ready. I chose it based on what felt right to me in the store. Fit, dry operation, etc. I can't say I've found anything I don't like about it since buying it. Shoots better than I can. Legendary platform blah blah blah. Choosing a rifle is a lot like choosing your mate. Go with what you like not what some internet schmo tells you. smile

I have a Howa 1500. Its super accurate, has a great trigger and the Hogue stock is the best part.My remington 700 has an awful trigger, a clunky stock but its really accurate also. I would look at another Howa long before a Remington because of the stock and trigger. Accuracy is a dead heat.

I have a Tikka T3 stainless in 30-06. It's very accurate and has a nice trigger. This will be my 7th season with it and i would buy it again, in fact my next rifle is going to be a T3 in 7mm-08. the only thing i don't like is the magazine feels cheap. I haven't had any issues with the mag though. The matte finish on the T3 stainless is very flat, in fact it has a lot less shine than most of the blued rifles out there, unless they are a matte blue of course.
