Dwayne Bowe: Lombardi pointed out that the Kansas City Chiefs could expect to receive a third-round compensatory draft pick in return if Bowe left via free agency, so a team would have to give up a second-round pick to get the receiver. That only makes sense if an interested team can negotiate a long-term contract.

Thanks for posting that. I was looking for info about his trade value. A 2nd rounder is a little tougher to part with.

Any ideas on the depth of the free agent WR pool coming up for the off season. That would partly dictate whether its worth it to do a 2nd rounder and then sign him versus waiting until free agency and hope to sign him then.

Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe was not much of a factor in Week 8 against the Raiders. Bowe finished with just three catches for 65 yards in the 26-16 defeat and only caught one pass in the second half. After the game Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported that Bowe could be had in a trade if a team offered the Chiefs at least a third-round pick in exchange

Looks like some conflicting reports.

I don't understand why Wright hasn't taken the field yet. Everyone always says our WR's have no separation and aren't fast enough to get open down the field.

I don't see that being a problem with our 4th round pick...he can fly.

Ponder need linemen that can block and pick up the blitz. He doesn't have time to throw deep.

Adrian Peterson seems to have no trouble running behind those same offensive linemen. Good QBs make quick decisions and don't need their offensive linemen to block for 10 seconds.

Run blocking and pass blocking are 2 very different things. And if you watched the Tampa Bay game you would have seen that Ponder had guys on him before he even got to the 3rd step in his 3 step drop. No QB in the league would have gotten the ball to a receiver in that amount of time. And there are times when AP is able to run the ball effectively despite poor blocking.

While the oline has been suspect at times I'm not going to say that's the only issue. As I see it our offense has three issues that all play off of each other.

1. Poor pass blocking - Ponder needs time to throw and the receivers need time to get down field. 2 seconds is not long enough to get the ball down field.

2. Receivers need to get open - Ponder needs open targets to throw to, if WR's can get open quicker the oline doesn't need to pass block so long. Harvin is the only one who can get any separation and when he does Ponder has no trouble getting him the ball. Thats why Harvin leads the league in receptions and is top 5 in receiving yards.

3. Ponder needs to make better decisions and hit receivers not named Harvin. He needs to go through his reads, not lock on to one guy, and get rid of the ball in a timely manner, and also know when to get rid of the ball when there is no gain to be had.

All three of these play off of each other. Improving in any one area should help the other 2 areas look better.

There is a huge difference between run and pass blocking. Ponder has been hit/hurried the third most in the NFL.

Didn't the Vikings just use their first round draft pick on a supposed all-pro tackle?

I seem to recall in the off-season that folks here were saying that 'it made no sense to draft a QB if you don't have a line to protect him'.

Looks like they still have neither.
