My son got this from a friend of his...there isn't that much snow...we had an ice and snow event up in NW Mn over the weekend..."Story" is they were shot in the Fourtown area...the Guy in the Pic is supposedly from Mpls-St. Paul area and they drew four tags in the group he hunts with...If that's the case, I would think that the pic and story should show up in one of our small town papers up here in the near future...Yea, that's an awsome picture...wish it were I!!

I just want to say congrats to all the wolf hunters out there...I envy you..what a trophy and I also want to know how many moose calves and deer fawns a pack can eat.not too meaty till they get older..

the DNR says the moose cow/calf ratio is really low..they haven't figured it out yet..blaming it on global warming and anything else they can come up with

Congrats to all the first season hunters. 147 wolves so far is far higher then what I expected. Also if anyone gets a chance there was a great editorial in saturdays star tribune in support of the wolf hunt from someone who has studied wolves. http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentaries/179739061.html?refer=y

Just read Dennis Anderson's article and made the mistake of reading the comments....man there are some out of touch people. They don't understand game management, they don't understand hunting, they don't understand wolf behavior, they don't understand the ESA and its intent, and they don't understand or respect the scientific method.

They simply don't care about game management primarily because we're not likely to eat wolf stew. How can I fund wolves etc. and now these madmen want to shoot all of them ? And then not eat them ? We have to help the deer/moose out some here to I think, that researcher in Quebec when they had heavy wolves before they turned on one another or left, the researcher found 0 deer and 0 tracks of deer, when the logging came it helped drive what was left of the wolves out and sure enough within a years time deer and tracks filtered back into that area. Wolves are successful 46% of the time they hunt according to what studies I could find. Anyway I'll promise if a season didn't happen the locals would've taken matters into their own hands in my area no doubt about it. Now they can bring in hunters or trappers, these wolves in time certainly will get tougher and tougher to come by, they're already a tough quarry.

These anti's or whatever that hate the fur thing must really hate Fawns. Bobcats,Dogs,Wolves,Coyotes, are pretty tough on them and if we had the Mt. Lion who eats on average of 50 deer per year with a 80% success rate or higher in pursuits, wowsa. Glad Dennis put it out there in the article, we need the guys with a voice to be vocal, without fear of a wolf rally in his front yard.

Pretty current then... Still a cool pic.

I read the comments on Dennis Anderson's article too. Those antis are so out of touch. They were mad he didn't explain why there was a need for the wolf season. Cudos to him for not coming back on there & saying, "because it's obvious to any silly-me, who deer hunts where there are wolves that there are WAY to many!" That's what he should have said, but it's probably good he didn't.
