I'm going to spool up the ice lines soon, so I was curious what line you have had luck with?? I was going to go with Power Pro, but after reading into it, it sounds like it freezes up a lot...Vanish seems to have good reviews any thoughts?? (I fish for walleyes and pannys) thanks for the input

I use vanish in 2-6 lb almost exclusively. I love flouro, it has the clear characteristics of mono with the no stretch quality of braid...as far as memory it will have some at first but once you stretch it a few times on fish it will be good to go.

Ive used on summer and winter rods catching everything from 10+ carp to 2" bluegills and cant say Ive ever had a fish Break off on me....a good line is only great when paired with a good drag.

Berkley Sensation is good also. I bought a spool this early fall and have been pleased with it. You are right about the braids freezing up, you can't beat the braid if you plan on exclusively fishing out of a shack but if you are out on the ice stick with mono or flouro.

I even bought a spool of Northland Bionic Ice last year, 3lb test and it did pretty well.

I like suffix in open water. Was going to try their ice line this winter on a couple rods.

I have always liked the orange mono ice line they make for times when mono is needed. its nice and supple and has just enough stretch, I ran 1 lb for a whole winter on all my panfish rods and never had an issue..

So for the poor guy that posted the question... I guess the favorite Ice Line is...

Suffix.... no Northland.... no P line.... nope... Berkley....nah...

braid.... forget that try Stren... best is Gamma... unless you can find Vanish... but what about Bailing twine???

I think asking yourself exactly what you will use it for... inside/outside, bobbers, tightlining, water depth etc... will go a long way in helping you out. Obviously lots of companies make a good line just do your best to match up line strengths with the most important parts of your fishing and you should be good.

My favorite line is the one that has a 2 lb crappie at the end of it!!

I've been using the berkely 100% fluoro ice since it last winter. I use the berkely 100 fluoro on some summer rods to. I like it much more than the vanish. The vanish seemed stiffer and a bit more coil prone. I use 2 pound on panny rods and 4 pound on walleye rods. I caught 5 bass with the smallest being 17 inches last year on the 2 pound test and never had a break off. That was with them running wherever they wanted and dragging the line against the ice hole. It's been the best for me so far.

The more and more lines I try, I come to realize that most everything is the same and a lot if it is just a marketing game especially when it comes to the well know companies. If their line was kerappy then they would not stay in business very long.

I did run into a bad batch of that Suffix ice line a couple of years ago and I was disappointed by that since I love their braid, but maybe it was just that lot or something.

Good ol Trilene XL has been doing fine for me the past couple of years. What I usually do with mono is just hand stretch about 30 ft (5 arm lengths) before the first drop in the hole. It comes off nice and straight the rest of the day.

Darren,

I tried it also and was less then impressed by it. I ended up taking it off and going back to the berkley micro ice.

If I were you guys I would try P-line.. it is the best ice line on the market. I run the 2 pound on my pan fish rods and 3 on my eye and perch rods.

Same here. 2 or 4 lb P-line is my favorite. Some memory, if it's been a while since you fished, but one fish and the memory is gone and it stays pretty straight. It's strong as well.
