Meat Sales

Rainbow has smoked bacon for $2.99 a pound.  Comes in about a six pound sack.  My son eats bacon almost every day and we've bought it before.  It's thick and tastes surprisingly good.  I'm sure theres a reason it's so cheap but it tastes great.  Ignorance is bliss maybe...

I wonder if that's not one of the remaining Rainbows that Jerry's bought.  They pretty much follow the Cub ad I think.  Jerry's is a franchise Cub and owns many Cub stores.  I know they bought two Rainbows and kept the name.  If it's applewood thick sliced bacon it's the same price as the Cub stores this week.  Thanks for the report.  good luck.

reinhard, you are right on.  Usually I run into it at Cub.  I'm from a long line of bacon experts and while I will take Thielens in Little Falls over anything this stuff is pretty dang good and I can't understand the price.  Like I said maybe I don't want to know...

That is good bacon.  Cub sells the same bacon in their service cases all year long, but at a higher price.  This comes in packaged in bulk and pre-sliced in vac packs fresh.  They put it on sale every so often.  The bacon gets packaged and wrapped by the meat department.  I got some today myself.  good luck.

Boy, I wish down here in this purported  "#1 city"  (HA!) we had more than a Walmart, a bunch of over-priced Hy-vee's, and a Cub foods to shop at. We used to have an Econo foods, a Rainbow, a few others, they all packed it in. I miss those places. Thank god for the small local guys.

You forgot target, aldi, fareway, and some others.

It is, but pretty small meat dept, selection-wise, (Try to buy herring after Xmas) and price wise, IMO. I won't go there since they made their statement about 2nd amendment rights and the fact they do not permit CC patrons in any of their stores, as I always carry.  But, we won't get into that on the food thread.

Certainly target doesn't have much of a meat department.  And I sure don't care for Walmart meat.  I think it comes pre packaged on a truck from who knows where who knows when.

So that mostly leaves me with the smaller outfits, although my wife likes Hi Vee.  But she isn't much of a carnivore.

From what I understand they are 2 different stores but both have great bacon. Might be related but don't know for sure. My buddy asked and they sort of skirted the question.

Cub frequently has the same deal with 3 or 4 lb. packs. Good, thick sliced smoked bacon. Guess it's a volume deal.

Yeah, I like to buy those and vacuum seal them in portions that are the right size for my family and throw them in the freezer. I think it's much better bacon than the big label brands and a better deal to boot.

That Rainbow is owned by Jerry's which has many franchise Cub stores.  It was one of the few Ranibow's that were sold where the new owners kept the name.  Folks in that area were familiar with that Rainbow and liked it so they kept the name.  Most Rainbows that were sold to Cub owners are also keeping products once sold by Rainbow which is a good thing for customers.   Most of the Cub stores if not all carry that applewood smoked bacon.  The one's with a service counter have it on display there and the one's that do not have it package it for the counter.  If you ask the butcher he should sell a cryo pack to you with a discount if you want a larger amount.  good luck.

Bottom sirloin is also known as a ball tip steak.  It's closer to the round and not as tender as the top sirloin but I marinate them and they are good to go.  I posted the bottom sirloin roast I smoked for thin slices for hoagies on this forum.  good luck.

That's what I use for my shish-kabobs. Wish the ball tips were still 2 for $3.49  Might have to post a tutorial. Looks like the cow is named Chuck.
