Vex - how long on a charge

fivebucks

Question

Just curious how long people get on a charge on your vexilar. If I am fishing all day my charge indicator on my vex says I am pretty low on my battery. I do need to charge after each day of fishing (I know you should for battery life) but if I were remote I don't think I would get 2 days from my battery. Just wondering if my battery is starting to go or if this is fairly normal.

I've been running my FL-18 for 6 years now still on the original battery and I charge it after every outing no matter if it was 1 hour of use or 11 hours of use on a long trip. That being said I have made multiple overnight trips to Red and have ran my vex continuously for 12+ hours and in total pushing 25 hours still with about a 1/3 of the battery life remaining. However, I noticed earlier this winter, after an 8 hour trip it was set at a half, so good thing I have a new battery ready to go for when this one hits the crapper.

I just bought a new battery before I went to Lake of the Woods. I charged it before I went up there and ahad a 100% battery before I started fishing. I fished 8 hours per day for 3 days without charging and I still had 52% battery reading left.

I may be due for a new battery after this season...which did you buy? that really sounds like a healthy battery there!

I would suggest going to a 9ah battery. I have a 7ah in my vex now and might spring for a new 9 ah. I am going to LOTW this month and was wondering how mine will handle the long run time. I am sure it will be fine but it is 7 years old. Doesn't hurt to bring a spare for a trip like that.

9amp is the way to go for sure! But more important is to get a Vexilar smart charger that shows when your battery is fully charged. And you don't have to unhook the charger as this will go to maintain mode when charged! The light turns green in maintain mode.

I also mark on my calender when to charge all my batteries every month when there not in use, it will add years to your battery life!;)
