DTro
Don't try to enter this catch into the KOTC though The Morris A. Miller Health Hero Award is given to honor people in the community who provide a spontaneous reaction to an emergency while putting their own safety at risk during an unusual medical or life-saving incident. On July 26, 2011, Jacob R. Robinson of Shakopee observed a dangerous, life threatening situation involving a swimmer struggling in the water. Mr. Robinson took immediate action by going into the water to assist the swimmer. Mr. Robinson has been around the water most of his life as he is an avid fisherman. He is not a trained rescue swimmer and considers himself as an average swimmer, but he knew that if he didn’t do anything, the swimmer was very likely going to drown. Mr. Robinson risked his own life on this day to save the life of another. Jacob decided that he had to take action; so he got in the water, swam to the swimmer and pulled him back to shore. Jacob then assisted the swimmer by walking him back to the pier at which time they were met by the Emergency Responders. If Mr. Robinson had not taken immediate action, it is very likely that the swimmer would have lost consciousness and gone under the water. Many personnel would have then been needed to coordinate a search and rescue operation. Ultimately, the outcome of this incident could have been much different. Although the Sheriff’s Office does not encourage untrained civilians to risk their life, Mr. Robinson states that he was confident in his ability and selflessly took action to rescue a complete stranger that was struggling in the water and possibly about to drown. Congratulations to Jacob Robinson on receiving the Morris A. Miller Award, and thank your for being a true hero!
