The molds were done by Tim Overbaugh, he also just mounted, and molded the 5lb world record sunfish from arizona (for obvious reasons).

These bulls were 11" and 11 1/4" when taken from the lake, and were in the freezer for about 4+ months(myself to blame)before I found Tim. Just something to be aware of before sticking your trophys in the freezer!

Great mounts! I have a 17.25" black crappie that I took in for molding a year later and it too shrunk and lost weight. I guess the proper way is to freeze it in a chunk of ice and get it done quickly. There isn't a lot of great information out there about preparing fish for molding versus traditional mount preparation.

Nice job on some bruisers!

What is the difference between molding vs traditional mounts? I guess I don't know either.

Excellent work!

So you had them 'molded'.. does that mean those are fiberglass replicas, but that the molds were cast from the fish you harvested? If so, that sounds intriguing, because I'm a fan of the long-term durability of fiberglass.

YOu pretty much got it.

By doing the mold, the supplier can sell fish of that exact size to others who may want one on thier wall. When they first started to do this, many would mount your fish for almost nothing to get a mold of a specie or size that they did not have on hand.

Wallygader,

Did you happen to take a girth measurment of that 11 1/4?

I ask because I caught and released an 11 1/4" last weekend....It was a pretty skinny 11 1/4 with only an 11" girth. Im thinkin I may have a tough time finding that size mold around! I tried Tim but he doesnt have it.

Thanks
