harvey lee
I had a fellow tell me one can take numerous shotguns out duck hunting as long as only 3 shells are in the gun with a plug.is that legal?
Farley
I looked into that a few years back and it was legal then.

TylerS
Legal, but I can't see why you'd want to do that. By the time you rack off three shells, the birds typically are well out of range of another volley. The only time I could see a benefit to that were if you had one as back-up in case of a jab in you primary weapon. But then there really wouldn't be a need to have the second gun loaded until you needed it...
mwal
I have done it 12ga with duck loads and a 10ga with t shot. I did get several geese doing that. I no longer have the 10 ga so I bring 1 gun but yes it is legal I have been checked by a warden and he had no problem with it.Mwal
dan z
the only reason I would want the extra gun(s) would be for cripples.
Black Bear
Perfectly legal in MN but do NOT do it in Saskatchewan. I get sick of jacking shells in my 12...so I load up the 10er with goose loads. Love pounding 60 yd honkers with a 10 full of heavy shot. carpshooterdeluxe
I did it last fall on a foggy snow goose hunt. Probably could have loaded both guns and still rapped off another 6 with birds in range...but those aren't your typical conditions. Most guys I know that carry 2 guns are doing the 12/20 loaded for ducks and a 10 for geese.
luckycrank
keep my o/u 20 loaded with cheap #2's for cripples when chasing divers think it is quicker to get on target when the pop up for air. other wise 3" 3's or 2's out ot the 12 also if there decoying nicely the 20 is a blast! cause I shoot it better. Cheetah
Another reason to do it is to have one gun set up for geese, and the other for ducks. Different shot size, choke, etc.
lawdog
Legal yes.Smart, usually not. Hard to control two loaded weapons, work a duck call and pay attention to the birds/dog etc. I would never do it in a boat. Maybe in an in ground built blind with a decent way to secure the off gun, but I'm not for having extra guns just laying around loaded... HNTNBUX
I use two guns with different loads and chokes all the time. Shooting teal in the decoys with the same load as mallards swinging wide does not make sense to me. No dogs in my boat though.
RumRiverRat
I hunt with 3 loaded guns all the time.A 12ga a .45ACP and a .38spcl +P
mt1017
always have 2 loaded and ready one with 3.5 and mod choke the other with 3 in with the improved for those birds that actually want to decoy. I hate switching shells and i'm not shooting a teal with 3.5 2 shot at 20 yrds.
morefishplease
We do it field hunting for geese and ducks. We all have 10 ga's for geese and wood ducks like to use the field so we bring the 12's with for them.
Todd Caswell
We do it field hunting for geese and ducks. We all have 10 ga's for geese and wood ducks like to use the field so we bring the 12's with for them. Wow we have never had the need for a 10 for decoying geese, we all shoot 20's or 12's and nothing bigger than 2's. When you learn to put geese feet down at 20 yards by being in the right place, plus really, really learing to blow a call then you'll understand there is no need for a 10 guage or 2 guns for that matter. Sounds like a Cluster F to me..A 20 Guage and # 3's will kill geese stone dead every time...
Farley
I just wait for them to land on my blind then I grab them, dont know why you need to use a gun? Maybe you should learn to call better.
fishersofmen
I lasso them out of the air rodeo style. That way I'm not waking people up early in the morning with the sound of gunshots.
Stringerless!
Usually have two. Firing pin on stoeger OU is going bad after about 8 boxes of shells through it over 2 years. Only brought one last weekend and never again. Changing shells every time I hear a goose . Enough of that nonsense!
life=outdoors92
put in some federal 3" 2 shot (preferbly full choke but it of course differs by gun and choke model) and u'll never need to change shells or have 2 guns in the blind. simple as that
