My Rod Exploded!

Ok, technically it didn't explode, but it broke in THREE PLACES AT THE SAME TIME on a hookset! I have broken a couple rods in the past that only broke in one spot which is what i would expect. I'm not even sure how it's possible to break in more than one spot at a time. Anyone else ever experience this before?

Im not sure how big the bass was but I had just caught a couple 14 inchers right before it happened, so it was probably about the same size (small). It made a pretty loud snap and scared the [PoorWordUsage] out of me. I definitely wasn't expecting it. It broke in 3 spots, so I have 4 pieces.

It's the way some rods fibers are spun when they make them during the manufacturing process. Sometimes they just have a bad spining and wetting process of the resins and then the whole thing just breaks like "glass". wink

I had a lesser expensive spinning rod break about mid way through the blank on a hookset once. Still fought the fish and brought in an 18 inch Bass. Caught it on a Buzzbait. I think the drag was too tight and I was using a braided line that had no give. The rod was a Rapala brand 6'6 med hev spinning rod. I think you get what you pay for. Never have had it happen since but most of my rods and reels are now a bit better quality.

Yep, 7'6 H Carrot Stix wild. I have since found out that this is very common with this rod. It was my first and last E21. I had 17lb flouro in it and the drag wasn't locked down. Less than a month old. Shouldn't have happened.

Yeah I wish I had a picture of the look on my face when it happened!

jailberg,

i'm going to take a stab at this but did you by any chance get this rod at a chain store and maybe on a closeout price of some nature? Everyone has heard that the CS "had" issues and have been rectified and that it was only with 2,500 pieces made. But when you said it was a month old I'm just curious if its and old rod still out on the shelves. Maybe you could take it back to the store and get it replaced for a new one because I know they have improved there rods with this past issue.

Good luck,

mr

I dont think they have cured these rods either since I was working an event at the C store and saw someone test the backbone on the floor with them and snapped 2 of them. These were the wild rods as well.

I have the older CS. Bought it new on e.b.a.y. in Feb. Just this past weekend, I caught a limb of a tree. Yanked it a few times and it broke a few inches below the first guide by the handle. That was that. In the process of getting the package ready to ship the pole in to get a new one.

The one I broke has been awesome to be honest. It was my mistake for casting into a limb.

Send it in to E21. Hopefully they can replace it. Just ship it in with the original receipt or invoice. Also, E21 does want you to call them first so they can email you the RMA #. I am sure you figured this out already by now.

Sorry to hear about the pole though.

Pretty sad when someone says "my rod exploded" and someone manages to guess what rod it is.

Sorry, I think I would just eat the cost and get a rod that isn't a POS. Those rods are too expensive to have the problems that they apparently do.

LOL--- I was going to ask the same question as Larson.. Carrot Stix are known for that a little.

To be fair though if they were as durable as any other rod they'd definitely be one of the best values out there. Durability is probably the only reason why I didn't buy one.

Der. If my 98 Honda Accord could do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds it would be one of the fastest cars out there.

But it can't...

Because it's junk.

I have to say I did like how the rod fished but I'm not going to chance it again. I didn't have a similar rod in the boat to back it up and I was thinking "what if I was in a tournament?" I would have been "poor word choice"!!

lol, did it seriously filter "scrued"? But yes, that would suck. Kinda like today when I thought I had packed one rod and it turned out to be another VERY different one that was pretty much useless!
