unleaded or non oxygenated (sp)

my understanding is that newer rigs are designed to handle the ethanol, whereas older rigs from before ethanol in gasoline times need nonoxy.

my boat is 82, and it needs nonoxy. Runs like total carp if I just put regular unleaded in.

Older engines, or actually older fuel lines, are not designed for ethanol. The will become brittel and break over time. I have an old fuel line from a 6 gallon tank that is like a frozen rope.

As well as gaskets and seals. Not to mention how well it cleans everything in it's way. Clogged filters anyone?

I live in the Forest Lake/Wyoming area, it seems that non-oxygenated gas is not that common around here (at least when I looked a while ago). Anyone know a station that carries it in my area? Is it less common in most areas or am I missing something?

In my expereince if you trailer your boat around and get gas by the lake or maybe trail ride your sled you may not find the non-oxy gas, is that right?

Just remember, unleaded, unleaded with ethanol, and non oxy gas gets old. Take that into consideration when you are purchasing for your boat. The non oxy in some areas may have sat in the stations tank for quite a while as they do not sell as much as the other types they may have. I like to fill at places that are in high traffic areas as the gas may get sold quicker and be fresher. Had an issue years back at a small station by the lake. The gas was 50 cents higher a gallon and did not sell very quickly and I got what I believed to be old gas. You can't stabilize old gas, only fresh gas. Once it starts to break down no stabilizer it going to bring it back to fresh. I buy gas several times a week or month depending how often I on the lake. Only 10,15 gallons at a time. This way the gas is fresher and not setting in my boat any longer than it has to. I also add seafoam to EVERY tank for peice of mind, but thats just me.

Just something to keep in mind.

i only burn non-oxy in my outboard. i have a 25hp 2-stroke which was new in '07. the dealership i purchased it from gave me a list of fuel stations that sell the 91 octane non-oxygenated gas. they swear by it, and have told me not to use regular unleaded as the 10% was increased to 15% ethanol just this year. i also use a ring treatment oil every time i fill up. motor runs great!

if you live in the Lakeville area...the Marathon on Dodd and Fleet Farm are the only two places that carry it.

Any motor newer then the mid 90's wont have any issues with running oxy fuels. If you are running high octane fuel in a motor that isnt designed to run with it, you are just throwing your money away, and the motor will actually run less efficient then the lower recommended octane fuel. At upto .50 cents a gallon, that adds up fast throughout a year, running it in all your toys.

You are correct, but most people don't run it for the increased octane, they run it because it takes longer to go bad compared to oxy fuel.

Just installed a new 90hp E-tec the week after Memorial Day and the manual suggests using 87 octane with up to 10% ethanol blend so that's what I run.

what do you burn in your boat, wheelers, auger, and so forth.

I have use the unleaded for years, with no problems, put stabil or seafoam in when puy away for the year.

yeah, I gave up running for the non oxy stuff. I wish they had it in 87 octane. Oh well.

I throw stabil in if I wont use the boat for a couple weeks.

I run a 82 'rude 90 horse.

It will run just fine on it, but it is the storage that you have to be carefull with. If you use it up within a month you are good, but ethanol will absorb water and separate causing problems if stored for too long.

Huh, I have been storing my boat without treating the Oxy fuel that was left in it since new in 2000, never had one issue with it. My boat before that, I did the same thing, never one issue with that one either. I guess I am just lucky.
