Shimano Symetre, Pflueger President and President XT, Pflueger Arbor, Pflueger Supreme

last years model is on sale for under $100.

I have each and like them all. For the money I really like the Pflueger President XT.

Just bought the Scheels pro combo for 80 bucks seems nice havn' got a chance to use it though. Best thing about em is that scheels has a lifetime warranty on all there rods/combos. So if it breaks or isn't working like it should bring it back they'll give you a new one even without the receipt.

I just paired up a Pflueger Arbor with a Quantum rod to see if I like this Arbor as well as some of my other Pflueger's.

I like some of Okuma's reels one being their Inspira model.

The Abu Garcia Cardinal 600 series fits here. I am a pure fan.... no pun intended of the Abu Cardinal series. It along with the Pflueger President series are all I use! I will agree with them, I have yet to junk one. Abu Garcia For Life.

I had the same search earlier in the year, and went with a symmetre...I have both generations before the current Symmetre as well, and have to say this new model surpasses even the previous $160 Stradic's. I've never had a Shimano go out on me, where I have with Guide Series and Quantum. It's ALL ABOUT QUALITY CONSTRUCTION, NOT QUANTITY IN BEARINGS. The President, and some of the Pflueger's are a very nice reel for the price I must say though.

I would buy 2 or 3 cheapies for 100 bucks. Spinning reels serve as line holders and I back reel anything decent so the drag isn't a bid deal.

Same thing with rods. Any decent IM8 with fireline will be more sensitive that the most expensive rod with regular mono. I'd rather have a few rods - reels already setup differently that one top end combo.
