sleep number bed???

About 5 years ago we had a standard pillow top but a client that I was building some cabinetry for had a tempur pedic that was never slept on that he was trying to get rid of so I bought it from him cheap.

My wife slept fine on it but after a week or 2 my back was shot and it only got worse over the next year or so even after putting a feather comforter, a foam pad etc to try to change things.

so we went to the sleep number store one day and looked them over and I bought one that night. I like this bed much more than the memory foam bed and for us it works because she like the bed to be like a concrete pad and I like to have mine set like I just fell back into 18 inches of powder snow. So far it has performed flawlessly and I am happy with it.

That being said everyone is different and it might not be the best bed for you. I would suggest making the rounds and trying all of the available types and see what fits you the best.

We've had one for about 5 years now - no issues quality wise. It can take a bit of trial and error to find your number, so you might have to work at it for awhile. The nice thing about these is that it is many different mattresses in one bed, from very soft to very firm, so it gives you the chance to experiment at home to find what works for you, rather than trying to figure out what you want by laying on one at the store for only a minute. I think they still have a 30 day money back offer, so you can always take it back if it doesn't work for you.

Same here, have had one for at least 10 years and even if I go to bed with a sore back, i am relaxed by the time I get up. It has to be one of the best and most reliable purchases I have ever made. I combine it with a memory foam contour pillow. I'm a 60 laugh

Have had one about 10yrs. We don't like to stay away from home anymore as we won't be able to sleep on our sleep number. Both my wife and I absolutely love it. Has been very reliable we have not had any problems with it.

We are on our third mattress in the last 3 months. I did a lot of research on mattresses before we set out looking for one. We first bought a sleep number bed and returned it. I like the mattress to be softer and my husband likes it firmer. When I lowered the setting on the bed I felt like I was just sinking verses gettting a softer feel. My husband couldn't feel any difference from our 15 year old mattress so we decided to return it. Also, I watched the delivery men set the bed up and I thought all the components looked somewhat cheap. Seemed like it was nothing but a glorified air mattress and for the almost 3 thousand dollars we spent on it we didn't think it was worth the money. We lost the original delivery and set up fee of $177.00, but saved on that cost again by returning it ourselves to the factory in Plymouth.

I was at a comedy show when a local comedian cracked, "My wife and I recently got a sleep number bed. Her sleep number is 35. Mine's 1,125, which is how much we spent on a dang air mattress."

Seems like most people here like them. I know my parents bought a higher-end one and my dad hates it. My mom likes it, but doesn't love it.

Next we bought a Tempur-pedic mattress. It took a while to get use to, but again for the cost we thought we should absolutely love it and we were not. It seemed very firm and we thought we wanted a softer feel. We went back to the store and exchanged/upgraded it to what they said was softer, but unfortunately we still are not happy although I do love my Tempur-pedic pillow. We may be stuck with this one because they only allow one exchange. We thought mattress shopping was AWFUL and DIFFICULT!! Best of luck to you. Radisson Hotels have sleep number beds for those of you who can't leave home because of your sleep number.

Just purchased the p5 model a couple of months ago after debating between a sleep number and tempurpedic. Previous to this, I was waking up with a sore back and could not get comfortable in bed with a standard spring mattress.

It did take a couple of weeks to get used to it. However, I am very pleased with it. I have absolutely no soreness anymore and sleep very well on it. Anytime I travel and have to sleep on a different mattress for an extended period of time, the soreness returns.

When researching, most of the feedback I got from people was positive. Usually the negative feedback came from people who shared the bed with someone that had a very different sleep number.

We've got one. I have a bad back and do NOT find relief from our bed. That being said, it is pretty comfortable.

My wife likes her side pretty firm, mine much softer. Because of this, there is a "hump" in the middle of the bed which can at times get in the way if you follow me.

Overall I'd say it's as comfortable, for sleeping, as any other bed we've slept in, but not sure it's worth the price.

Does anyone have any experience with either the Original Mattress Factory beds of Restwell beds?

I'm about a year away from having to replace my mattress, and the Original Mattress Factory are something I'll probably look into.

I grew up in St. Louis Park, and there is a big Restwell location on Hwy 7 that's been there for years, so I'll probably check them out too.

Back in college I bought a bed from the Original Mattress Factory. It served its purpose well whistle It was comfy, but nothing special. Price was good though and durability was good.

Our first stop in finding the perfect mattress was at The Original Mattress Factory. The first thing you should know though is they will not take a mattress back without a 25% fee (for any reason). That would have been $400.00 we would have lost on the mattress we were considering if we would have been unhappy with it. Other than that according to Consumer Reports The Original Mattress Factory came in 2nd for "would you buy that mattress again". Tempur-pedic came in first and select Comfort 3rd (May 2010 issue). Consumer Reports said if you wake up with backache or neck pain not to immediatley blame your mattress. The problem could be your pillow.

Have had our Sleep Number for 12 years with no problems.

In the last 10 years I have changed from a 100 down to a 35...due to abusing my body in sports decades ago, and the last few years my body is reminding me of that abuse. I would have had to purchase at least 5 different beds to stay comfortable in the last decade if not for the sleep number.

Even now, when my shoulder gets really tender from over use, I just drop down to 30 or even 25 for a night or two and I am back in working order (without having to buy a new bed for a couple nights=)

Yes this is not only the best bed we have ever owned, but now we also have one at the cabin.

Try them all at the store...we tried the top of the line and there was so much foam padding we could not feel a difference between settings and went with the next model down. I agree with a previous post, if we were to make a change, it would ONLY be to a king size. The Sleep Number stays!

Good luck on your mattress hunt!

In my experience and from what i have heard from others is that it takes a few days to "find" your number. Once you find it and settle in it is awesome. But if you mess with your number you have to give it a few nights to come around again...it isn't instant gratification. If you change the number each night looking for the right setting you wont be happy...give it 2 or three nights at the same setting until you have it dialed in.

I used to sell beds and every time I found out the person or couple owned a sleep number bed I would ask them what they thought of it. It was almost even 50/50 love/hate. Not a very good satisfaction rating for a bed. I would offer two pieces of advice. One, when you decide to try out a bed, stay on it for at least fifteen minutes. This allows your body time to adjust to what the mattress offers. In the ten years I sold them, I doubt that more than a handful of people took that advice, but they were the most satisfied customers because they invested the time to get it right the first time. Second, throw others opinions out the window when you get to the store. Sleep is perhaps the most personally independent experience you have. What one person likes may be totally unacceptable to you (even between couples). It's ok to be open minded and ask other's opinions, but keep in mind that you are there to satisfy your needs and you must know what those needs are. They will recommend or not recommend a bed by their experience with it. Their needs or wants may not be the same as yours and/or your spouses.

Actually Sleep Number has a 30 night trial to find your number...so that is possible to try it out long term.

Cicada, I can appreciate your stat of 50/50 love hate with the sleep number, but do not agree with it. Working for a non-sleep number company that caters to people that are currently not satisfied with their bed, that would be expected. Ford fans dont shop for a Chevy unless they are not happy with their Ford...the stats would be different taken at a Ford dealership of Ford owners...or at a sleep number store, of sleep number owners.

Otherwise I agree completely with your advice, you HAVE to spend the time int he bed to relax into it and develop your opinion. And you are correct, even spouses have differing opinions on what is a comfortable bed.

Sleep is too important to daily functioning to be taken lightly. You also spend 1/3 of your life sleeping (at 8 hours per night) so you might as well BOTH be comfortable =)

Sleep well and sleep soundly...then you don't wake up when your spouse starts to snore sleep
