All it means is there are better areas than others. Habitat & terrain features differ and some will attract big deer year after year. It's not a complete [PoorWordUsage] shoot. Sure, you'll see deer almost anywhere and might even get lucky and shoot a nice one. But the guys who do it regulary have good spots. Guys don't race up there at 6am the day before for nothing ya know! I'll be back at the end of the line again this year. frown

Additional to Kyle,

Some guys get lucky and drop in on a consistently good spot for mature bucks one year and have the smarts to stay put. Others have been looking for that same type of spot for years and have fine tuned an area from repeat visits. Most are still looking.

A lot of dues are paid at Ripley year after year after year after................. wink

On a drive down to st cloud this morning @ 5ish I took CR 1 south out of Pillager, and shoots down the west side off camp ripley, boy did I see a dandy by the old school house. He was at least a 5x5, Couldn't tell for sure but he was all rack standing right in the ditch. Just a heads up to anyone maybe looking for a spot.

Archery hunters took 287 deer during the first two-day hunt held Oct. 21-22 at Camp Ripley Military Reservation near Little Falls. It was the third highest recorded harvest for the first two days of the hunt.

The harvest represents a 67 percent increase from last year’s harvest of 172 deer, when hunters experienced poor hunting conditions, and it is 64 percent above the long-term average harvest of 175 deer for the first hunt.
