If you're in the Grand Rapids / Hill City area there's a guy the opened a show, selling Pro Shot returns. He buys everything by the Cargo Container and sorts through it and stocks the shelves. All prices are open to neg.

Their bargain cave isn't all that great. Yes, you can find a deal or two at times. Like it was said used equipment isn't really discounted much. Earlier this summer I saw they had a huge glut of those life jackets that inflate at a really good discounted price. These were returned for whatever reason and they couldn't put them back on the sales floor. When I was there couple weeks ago there were still some life jackets, but they raised the price another $20.00. Go figure. They hold onto stuff way too long.

I have found some killer deals in there. The wife and I where in there when they came over the intercom that all bargain cave clothing was an additional 50% off. The wife got 2 Gortex jackets and 1 pair of Gortex pants for under $100! That is a killer deal, but on the other hand they do sell things in there that are more than what they are on the shelves outside at times. Like all things, you need to be a smart shopper and know what your buying.

I have had great success with finding smoking deals on new stuff in the on-line bargain cave. The discounts are usually pretty steep and the stuff is always unused.

That is the same way I have found some great deals, and now with the upgrade to there HSOforum, it is much easier to search thorough the cave, just put in your size and you will only see it if its available in your size.

Have been a Cabela guy since the boys started the business. The Bargain Cave was, at one time, truly a BARGAIN Cave. That has not been true for some time. Yes, you can occasionally find a good deal on something, but most of the time prices are too high, some of the junk is just that-junk they have shipped from store-to-store. New ownership is ALL about the bottom line. I still drop by now and then but most of the old thrill of hitting a Cabela's store is gone and it is now pretty easy to find same item for less or equal price.

What a shame. Oh....and knowledgeable customer service? Forget it.

I've been able to talk the price down in the bargain cave, you just need to be able to justify your reason.

Exactly. Ask the person behind the counter what their "bottom line" is on the product. Point out the flaws, and if the price isn't right, don't pay it. Learn to walk away...and know what the shelf price is also!

I got some good goose decoys for cheap, that had been used. Pointed out the flaws, and their "bottom line" was low enough for me! smile

-Haven't picked one thing up the last 5 times i've been in there though...

And thats why the priced do not drop like they did before.Becuse someone think it is fine to use something and return it later after the season is over. Plus like one guy said you have to know what you are buying I found some great deals but I walked away. I go in there to look around I don't see what I want I leave.

I used to go in the cave to find stuff, now I head in and search a couple of the clothes racks and then I run out of there. If I want bargains, I usually head down when they have their tent sales in the parking lot. When the owatonna store had that seperate building (the airplane museum) I found a lot of great deals in there, but they closed that and that is when I stopped "bargain" shopping at cabela's

Thats the first place I head to when I get in the store. Yes, its tough to dig through some of the clothing. I have found some darn good deals and if I cannot buy it for a reasonable drop in price, I let it go and get new.

One can ask if they will take a lesser price and on some items, they will drop the price, one just needs to ask.

When I lived in Grand Forks, I frequented the East Grand Forks Cabela's quite a bit. It was hilarious what they put in the bargain cave. All the old house decor and beat up/broken do-dads. Little ceramic deer with broken antlers. Broken cuckoo clocks. The list goes on.

I always thought it was curious about the type of rods they had, though. I remember distinctly that they had a couple giant ocean surf rods. I always wondered who from North Dakota would buy one of those things. I mean, there are some big cats in the Red, but not THAT big.
