Waterfowl Reports

MB if you went 12 seasons without a duck maybe it is time to try a new location - just my $.02 smile MN may not be what it once was, but it is not very hard to get a duck or two each year. The sloughs I hunt in East Central MN are locked up right now, but some of the larger lakes are holding birds.

Closed, really, wonderful lol, finally we're ready to rumble, ducks mainly mallards of course are thick and it's done lol, that's my luck I guess. So duckless season 12 and counting lol, geese is going through mid-decemberish so the greenheads are safe. I can see why some want a later duck season or a few late weeks to go after them. Oh well who likes shooting big curly tailed drakes anyway. smile

Lol I'm all for a later duck season even in the south zone. Most people on here want an earlier opener though. People in the north zone were complaing that everything was frozen by the last week or 2 of the season so therefore the dnr made 2 zones. I would love to see the duck season go a week or 2 in dec and I hate shooting big curly tailed mallards wink

not everyone can hunt fields or the river so the season ends... We should have an earlier opener so we can shoot our local birds, wait..... Mn doesn't raise any local birds. I think some people dont realize this. But the dnr is doing it's best to satisfy everyone and I respect that. Good luck to all the rest of the season.

Got a couple on Friday and I didnt get up north until real late playing sober cab wink so I scouted on saturday afternoon found some geese and a few ducks and talked with a few guys that did poorly on saterday they said they were not seeing many ducks so I went deer hunting filled a doe Tag then Sunday morning what I found Saterday was froze solid and to hard to get out by myself. so all in all it was a bust for me as ducks go for the past weekend

I checked a few different lakes I've been hunting yesterday and all of them were froze up. I was a bit surprised with one of the larger ones. Put all the decoys away time to focus on hard water fishing for me. Was a decent year for me, hadn't been duck hunting for 6 years. Was able to introduce my son to the game so that was fun. Our best time out was 2 weekends ago.

Went out Sunday morning to a totally different hunting approach. Did well, getting 3 green drakes, 1 hen. Missed on 3 shots at 2 flocks of low geese, put the gun away after that. Very embarrassing, luckily only my dad witnessed it. Going at it again before thanksgiving. Stearns county.

Limit of mallards this Morning by 9am for 2 of us. Busted a lot of ice out in north western mn. found 1 spot that was open on the lake and banged them! Shot more hens than we wanted but they couldn't figure out how to land in there as we had a bad wind setup. Had a flock of 60+ mallards circle 10 mins before shooting time. A few landed but they ended up circling until shooting time cuz they couldn't figure it out. We dropped 1. Not the greatest shooting but we managed.

I'll post a pic if i can figure out how to post one from my iPhone

Wondering if anyone from out West can report in the next day or so if the ice conditions have changed (opened up) on some of the smaller water. I would like to get out one last time out there--maybe Saturday and with temps Thursday and Friday being in the 50's wondering it that will open some water back up.

Thanks

@ Hunter. I did check it out and it does apply where I am. Minnesota does not have a rule but some Cities/Counties can. Mine does. Police chief claims even if I have permission it is not allowed.

Im pretty sure your police chief is wrong! If someone gives u permisson to hunt within 500 feet of their house or any live stock, who is to stop em? Its their property! Im not 100% on this but it just dosent sound right.

3 mallards in 3 shots to start the morning off. My usual pond had at least twenty guys there at 5 am in the south metro. This is a small pond that is not safely hunted with more than 3 groups. Drove back up to the north metro near home and set up only place I could. Wind and sun in my face. Flock of 3 right at go time and hit them all. My dog is a Brittany and looked really cold after the retrieves so I called it early. Not bad considered nothing went as planned.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
