Muskie Stocking Survey

Consider it done. My comments were as muskie angler numbers continue to rise, it would make sense to me to add new waters not to mention my best walleye waters harbor both game fish. Change is tough especially for veteran minnesota walleye guys, gives them another excuse like the weather as to why there livewell is empty sometimes. You get nearly 9 months to go after walleye if you want to, what to blame on a lake without musky when the livewell is dry and void of eyes. We won't hear a word about that though, just stocked musky lakes.

Done in support. Took 30 seconds. I think we all know muskies don't harm a fishery but only add to it in many positive ways. I don't know how we got on the mindset that they deteriorate the fishery by eating walleyes. It just doesn't happen. Yes they eat some but so do all the other fish already in the lake.

The latest MN Outdoor News has a half page paid advertisement; as well as commentary accusing the MN DNR of fraud in their research as well as implying an unfair relationship with Muskie Anglers. This is no joke guys and gals, these people are out of control and will stop at nothing including compromising their own dignity to achieve their goal. Stopping Muskie stocking statewide.

Great, another on-line survey.

In the realm of science, I can't imagine this having anymore credibility than the Cass Lake newspaper on-line poll.

The only difference this time is who is footing the bill. crazy

Can we finally stop wasting more of our tax money on this stupidity and put the DNR fisheries money/resources into projects to help all fishermen?

Risky Business lol, yea Battle Lake and Miltona have no walleye lol, wouldn't the smallest musky lake elk at like 200 acres have 0 walleye with it's plump musky population and catch and release musky only lol, I had more walleye follows on elk than muskies the last time there on a perch suick of all things. That schnitker guy will get all fired up once again.

See my post on the spearing section. 24 views and not a comment. Soooo, what does that mean?

Hey Shawn -

I just took a peek and the replies are rolling in. I guess your "lobbying" is only allowed on a musky forum. I wonder what happened to the can't we all just get along movement last spring??

The two funniest things were citing angler statistics from 2008 and referring to muskytroubles as a legitimate resource for info. I'd be LMAO if this wasn't such a serious topic.

2nd funniest thing is the MDAA calling us a 'minority' group. There is only one number smaller than 1 (as in 1% of the population that spear) that I know of.

I probably couldn't sleep at night if I was that intellectually dishonest with myself, of course I don't like to see an bleeding fish struggling on the end of a spear either but obviously neither of things bothers these guys.

Slot limits - now THERE'S a way to help all fishermen experience better fishing. We can all agree on that, can't we? Oh, wait.....nevermind.

Getanet, The DNR is proposing 5 new muskie lakes in the state. There are some in the MDAA that don't want muskies to be expanded based on the past feuds with Muskies Inc and the DNR. They have been spreading disinformation all over the place to get these new lakes blocked. Then there are some lake shore owners that have the NIMBY (not in my back yard) attitude towards the plan. That's the cliff notes history of the conflict.

wow.. I love the part about being Nomadic and how we carry invasive species around with us.. How does that partain to only Muskie fisherman? I'm sorry that I don't own lakeshore on every lake in MN and I don't keep a boat docked on every lake in MN and I fish for Muskies.. So that means I am Nomadic.. What a crock.

Spearers don't want muskies stocked, since they think it will interfere with spearing.

1. Spearing a musky is unlawful and if there aren't any muskies you don't have to worry before throwing.

2. In some lakes with muskies, spearing has been banned (although not recently so far as I know. Old bans continue)

3. Some seem to have a phobia about muskies being ravenous eating machines

I'm not a muskie fisherman, but I'm interested in this conflict. Can anyone lay out the issue for me without throwing too much of opinion into it? At it's root, what is this battle all about?

At it's root:

Muskie Guys, Darkhouse spearers, anti-harvest sportsmen, and PETA all want what is best for their version of what the resource should be. There are fundamental differences in the way each group feels this should be accomplished.

In reality:

Stocking Muskies won’t have that much of an effect on the lakes.

Removing the outright and effective bans on darkhouse spearing won’t have that much of an effect on the lakes either.

The rest is smoke and mirrors.

When it comes to the MuskieGuys vs. Darkhouse Spearers:

Each side is so busy yelling and thumping their chests that no one really listens to reasonable solutions to include all sportsmen in the future of fishing. Many times neither side can even get past the point of admitting a problem exists for fear that the “enemy” will get a leg up on them.

The sad thing is that as we fishermen continue to fight amongst ourselves PETA wins, without even lifting a finger.

A great analogy to all this bickering is our current two party political system in the United States.

A lot gets talked about but nothing really gets done.

All the while people get tired of the bickering.

So to sum the whole situation up in one word.....

Politics

Now of course that is my honest personal opinion.

I am sure, just as in politics, I will be bashed for expressing it. smile

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
