On the road (again) with Ken and Steve

Recommended Posts

We hit the road today. Been quite awhile since we paired up. Started in Babbitt, hit the North Shore, ended up back home. Lots of stuff in between. smilesmile

Great compilation Steve!! I was actually tempted to drop a line to you two since the board has been so quite lately since I have gotten back from work and back to school. I am working on sorting, cleaning up and editing some of my best from my summer up at Agassiz NWR. Hope to have some up soon. Great work as always!! For some reason as simple as the swan image is I really like that one.

I thought I seen a ghost in one of them eek

Nice compilation of shots to paint a picture of your day.

How far of a walk is it to get up on dem der hills?

I'm going to be up in the area on vacation next week and we (wife and I) are looking for areas that we can hike to that are not the typical tourist spots. What areas that may have some scenic beauty and may make for some good photographic opportunities?

Muleshack, it was on top Britton Peak, which is only a .3 mile walk, but very steep. It would be treacherous when wet. You have a panoramic view of about 180 degrees, with the lake in front of you. You get to Britton by turning on Cty. 2 at Tofte and driving up away from the lake for a couple miles. The parking area is marked, and is on your right. You can also park in the same area and walk a longer walk (over a mile) to get to Carlton Peak on a different trail. I haven't been up that one so can't say how it'd look.

Color is excellent at some places just up over the hill (really it's a good five miles or so) away from Lake Superior. We saw wide sweeps of red, though not at peak yet. Farther inland, we're a couple weeks away from peak color, and down by the lake there's not much color yet.

I've included a quick pano facing east from Britton Peak. Took it yesterday just for reference, as the light was bad at the time. If it's a sunny day, you'll want to be up there in the early morning to shoot the pano off to the right of this one (you'll be facing southwest), then come back to shoot this scene in evening/sunset light.

Ken, you know it takes me a few hours to wind down enough to go to sleep after these marathons. gringrin

I agree that swan image is winner! Nice work, a worthy road trip! Such a variety to experience in such a small area, how lucky we are to live where we do and to have people that can capture it at its finest!
