I would bet it's the Vikes who are the un-named team the Chargers were holding out for more draft value from.

The Minnesota Vikings have emerged as the primary suitor for Chargers holdout / suspended wide receiver Vincent Jackson. They reportedly tried to swing a trade for Jackson last week and are they are keenly interested in a hearing that will take place next week in New York City that could reduce Jackson's current six game substance-abuse suspension to three games.

Paul Allen on KFAN had a really good take on the Jackson bit. He said that if MN goes out and gets him, it's going to mean big, multi-year money. While he may or may not be worth the investment, it's worth thinking about how that will sit with current Vikings (Peterson, Rice et al) who are waiting for new contracts and didn't get them.

FWIW, I think Vikes management waited on extending Rice at least in part because he had a hard time staying healthy - and they have sure been proven correct at this point.

Jackson is a terrific talent, and MN would be SCARY on offense with Rice (when healthy), Jackson, Harvin, Shiancoe and Peterson on the field. I wouldn't mind seeing him acquired as long as it doesn't upset things in the lockerroom.

This is Favres last year...IMO, you go all out to surround him with as many players as possible to win football games...let's worry about next years contracts and hurt feelings in the off-season.

If we can get this guy let's get him...even if Rice is planning on being back mid season, it doesn't mean he'll be at 100%...or for that matter, stay healthy the rest of the year. Rice doesn't have the best history in this regard.

I agree Zep.

With Farve actually retiring after this year, that will free up some funds to atleast find a mediocre QB for next year and keep the receiving core we have, including Camarillo. With the right talent around even a halfass QB, we can still do well. I'm just not getting the feeling that T. Jackson will ever be the guy. For the little time T. Jackson has been on the field, I'm not impressed.

As was brought up on the show, instead of them being concerned of signing a new contract with a new player, how about not trying to do what is best for the team?

The better the receiving core we have this coming off season, the easier it will be to get a good QB here. Sign him!

More steam on Jackson....unconfirmed, but sources say Vikings willing to make trade offer if arbitrator lifts additional 3-game suspension. SD would get a pick in 2011 if Jackson plays one year in MN, and another pick in 2012 if he signs long term deal.

This would be awesome! Dont sit back and watch the season pass away, go after it while you can!

Quote:
Suspended WR Vincent Jackson's hearing on his Roster Exempt Status is scheduled for 9AM on Thursday.

Just a reminder. If the Players Association and Jackson's side win the hearing, V-Jax would be eligible to play by Week 4, and the chances of a team (Minnesota? Seattle? St. Louis?) resubmitting a trade offer would go up. If Jackson and the NFLPA lose, he would not be eligible to play until Week 7.

Quote:

According to Lee Hamilton of XX Sports San Diego, FOX Sports' John Czarnecki reported on Hamilton's radio show Wednesday that the Vikings are poised to offer "a high draft pick" for Vincent Jackson.

The proposal is dependent upon an arbitrator ruling Thursday that Jackson will avoid the Roster Exempt list, making him eligible to play in Week 4. Czarnecki is a shaky reporter to being with, and this is coming secondhand, so take it with a grain of salt. Czarnecki did add that St. Louis is expected to "enter the mix" should V-Jax prevail in his case. Jackson makes quite a bit of sense in both locales. He'd have the most fantasy value in Minnesota.

We should be hearing something soon!
