ESPN is reporting....Yeah lots of strength in that one. Gardenhire said he would do that 1000 times over if he had to. Even IF he would of put Slowey out there the next inning, he would of yanked him after that anyway. He has a RESPONSIBILITY to save that kids arm and not throw it off(Just think Mark Prior). Slowey just got back from an injury. He was interviewed and understood being pulled from the game. The Twins WON. The Twins are now 3 games ahead of the Sux(thank you Tigers!). I really could care less if a guy pitches a no hitter. Just win the game.

And because Gardy pulled him, he can also pitch in his next start! Instead of possibly having a sore arm. If he had less pitches, I am sure he would have been out there. Before the game, I am sure his pitch total was under 100 pitches, but because he was doing well, they gave him a few more.

Sometimes you have to have guts to do the right thing! smile

And for anyone who said they would be a better coach than Gardy, when you said that you proved that you could not possibly be a better coach!

It takes more than solid game time decisions to manage a Professional baseball team.

Rick, you are absolutely right. I work with a lot of teenage kids who think they know everything too and I always tell them that the smartest guy is always one who KNOWS that he does NOT know everything.

Waste of time reading this thread good call by the actual coach Gardy, not by couch potato, woulda shoulda coulda if I had my chance coach. Some people got it that they won the game, look at the big picture.

I started this thread, and I started it after he took a guy out that was 3/4ths of the way thru a no hitter. I still think he is a moron for pulling him. Period. I am not alone. Gardy makes the best out of what he has been given, but until he gets past the first round of the play-offs, I will still be undecided on the guy.

His worst decisions are 99% of the time are on the pitching.

Slowey may never pitch again...that's my entire argument for leaving the guy in and TRY to finish something extrordinary...you never know when you've thrown your last pitch.

Morneau is the same way...he may never play again...ever....doesn't mean you pinch run for the guy every time he gets on base.

Sorry Zepman, but I disagree 100%. You don't use up your resources that way. You don't do it in baseball. You don't do it in football (guys rotate in), you don't do it in NASCAR (saving your brakes, tires, etc), basketball, etc.... You don't push everything 100% until the moment of failure and then move on. That's a terrible way to run things.

I'm all for living for today and carp diem type of mentality, but it has to be balanced with sound decision making especially in a complicated, money-driven sport like baseball.

Gardenhire was proven correct. In fact, one could argue now that in hindsight, he should have had a shorten leash on Slowey. There's no guarantee he would have pitched through the 9th without injury. Now we've lost him for who knows how long. I'd rather have a title than a stat in the record books.

We'll just have to disagree whole-heartedly on this issue then...it is funny to listen to Jack Morris, Blyleven and some of the guys who pitched in that era rip these pitchers to shreds for the way they approach their starts now. I know, it's the managers approach, and these wussies have been brought up thru the system this way, but to me it seems like when a pitcher gets thru the 5th inning they start "looking" over at the dug-out waiting for their free shower ticket. I'd like to see them dig-in a little and compete alongside their teammates for more than half the game. Sorry...call me old-fashioned....carry on.

You hit the nail on the head.

I'm not gonna rip Zep on this one he has too many good takes on sports as far as I'm concerned and I generally agree with him for the most part on about everything.

Like Gardy said "I'd boo me too"

Kind of ironic the 2 managers that will finish 1 and 2 in the manager of the year voting, both, although reluctantly have taken pitchers out of the game with No-No's going!... smile

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
