CJH
Manny's Porterhouse is the bomb!!!
HawgTide
Surprised that "7 the Steakhouse" hasn't been mentioned. They are located at Hennepin and 7th downtown MPLS. Very pricey though. I knew I was in trouble when they asked if I wanted corn fed or grass fed beef. It was our 20th anniversary, so I wasn't looking at the prices until the check came. 1 bone in Ribeye, 1 Scallop/pasta dish, 2 appetizers and $50 bottle of wine costs us $330. It was a great steak though...
charliepete
Manny's is hard to beat for a restaurant steak. I like their double porterhouse. Medium rare Ribeye's from the Osseo Meat Market cooked over a smothered hickory chunk fire on my Weber takes top billing for me (and lots of my friends and family). I've had a couple of pretty darn good steaks on the wood fire in the BWCA, but most of the time I was pretty deep into the Jameson before the steak was done so I can't speak definitively. dfv87
We stopped several years ago in Spearfish SD on the way out to BIllings MT with about 20 people. At just before closing time (10PM) the hotel we stopped at, the front desk recommended it and called ahead. The owner said he would stay open for us. Needless to say we went had great dry aged steaks and a few cocktails, the owner actually sat with us and explained each cut and how it was prepared. We had a great steak and even better service. PLace was Mad Mary's or something like that. We all still talk about that stop and hardly ever about the rest of the trip.
Tripleplay
With work I've had some pretty expensive steaks throughout the past 10 years or so. I honestly think that Manny's is the best I've had locally and that includes Murray's and Ruth Chris in MPLS. I've had Shula's which was good, Ditka's which was decent and a really good steak somewhere in Montreal, but nothing tops the local Manny's for me. thatoneguy
Ruth's Chris in Mpls is good, Maynards in Excelsior has a killer NY Strip...probably the best steak I've ever had though was a bison porterhouse at The Corn Exchange in Rapid City, SD. Getanet
I prefer Manny's over Murray's as well. One little gem - at least it used to be - is Lindey's in Arden Hills. It looks almost like a bait shop from the outside and they only have 3 things on their menu - steak, steak or steak. You also get unlimited garlic bread, fried mashed potatoes and dinner salad. That's it, no frills. Oh, pickled watermelon rind too - ish. It's been 4 years or so sense I've been there, but it used to be excellent. Was out at Pittsburgh Blue in Maple Grove a few months ago and wasn't impressed. My steak was fine, but they severely overcooked my mom's steak. The waitress was embarrassed, brought her a new one, and that was all gray on the inside too. deadeye
The best Place I have had a steak is 801 Steak&Chop house in Des Moines...But the best steak I have ever had is what I grill myself. New York Strip, medium rare so the fat has melted into the meat and is juicy but done enough that I don't feel like I'm chewing on a live cow. A bit of lowrys, and some ground black pepper before it hits the heat and your golden.IMO good steak is the kind you don't put sauce on to eat. Pherris
I think all of the top shelf places mentioned in Minneapolis have great steaks. One I did not see mentioned was The Capitol Grill. That is personal favorite in Minneapolis. Best steak ever is a toss up for me between Benjamin's and Sparks Steak House in NYC. Both outstanding and the 5lb Lobster appitizer at Sparks may give it the edge. Hmmmmmm!!!!!!!
